if i plant seeds in MG organic choice soil and start in small jiffy cups under floros, can i transplant those cups into HYDROTON and into an ebb&flow tank ??? it seems that hydro will be cheaper, faster and produce more potent smoke but i just bought organic soil before thinking about switching to hydro...will it work ???

you will have to gently rinse the soil off the root structure.i just did this to some plants that were planted in soil.they were in the little peat pots.i did not lose one to this method.just be very gentle with the roots and placing in the hydroton.

A friend of mine uses the MG organic grow medium and actually bought several bags since they are on sale from the season change. She told me she had to add about a third of perlite to make up for the retention. From the look of the plants she is growing they rooted really well in the MG. She started out in small containers with straight MG and then when she transplanted to larger is when she mixed in the perlite.

di need to spread the roots out over the hydroton or just set the roots in there and cover them ????also will adding bone meal to the soil mix be a good idea ???(i havent planted yet...my bro has my seeds)

I would recommend starting in rockwool or rapid rooters if you know you are going to hydro so you don't need to do that root rinsing. Although I have successfully taken clones and seedlings from soil and put into a DWC system, it is always preferable to disturb the roots as little as possible. When I transplant to the hydrotron, I set the rock wool or rapid rooter into the net pot and gently fill with hydrotron. I set the water level in the bubbler to slightly above the bottom of the net pots until the roots start to grow through the net pot. When the roots start growing through, you can lower the water level.

so i want to start in rockwool and transplant the cube to the hydroton or can i sprout in organ plugs and cover with hydroton from the the start ??? trying to get a handle on hydrponics before my veg system gets here...ordering tonight

if your transplanting into dro use the RR, rockwool can be pesky for some....it will be easier skipping the rockwool if youve never grown in it.

dont use peat as it will break up and end up in your rez

If you start in either rockwool or rapid rooters, you can "transplant" the cube or plug into the hydro. I agree with trillion of atoms that rapid rooters are easier than rockwool.
