Legalize vs. Decriminalize

What is the main difference between legalization and Decriminalization???

i think that's part of the debate/part of the problem
..heck maybe it's purposeful.. for confusion.

as evident by this thread alone, we see many people think of these terms differently.

their definition;
legalization - the act of making lawful
decriminalization - legislation that makes something legal that was formally illegal

..basically the same in definition. yet like i said earlier; all decriminalization movements i see are fines/tickets over jailtime, and not true decriminalization (or not the way i feel it should be by it's definition)
