Hey everyone I had a quick question, Those little pouches that you add water to then put a seed in to sprout, they usually come with a little "greenhouse" like enclosure to put them in, Will it work to add water, put seeds in the pellets cover with the lid and let them sprout outside naturally then plant the pellet they are in once sprouted? To some it up, can you sprout outside in an enclosure such as this, 100 percent outside.
Thanks!!

That would def work as long as your weather is nice and temps are warm. Why do you want to germinate them outdoors?

You don't need to germ them in the dark if they are in jiffy pellets, germing in the dark is for the times when you are germing them before they go into a planting medium. The seeds are already in the dark since they are buried...

If the weather is nice, go for it, but as for me, I like to coddle my seedlings and make sure they start out right, so I like to use a consistantly warm area to sprout in. For me, this means inside...

seedlings also do not require the dome, i dont know that it will hurt but it isnt required like it maybe for clones.

I found that jiffy pucks held a bit to much moisture for me to get a good germination rate. I prefer the rapid rooter plugs. I would not do this outside. I find I need constant temps 24/7 and even in mild temps odds are it's either to hot in the daytime or to cool at night. I know nature has been pulling it off for a few years but I doubt her germination rates are any higher than mine... and she's not shelling out $ for good genetics.

Alright thanks everyone, germing indoors isn't an option for me due to company constantly coming over and whatnot thanks for the opinions! any others?

You can germ em in your closet until they break the surface, Hippiechick is right about the best germ rates comin from nice consistant warm temps. That'll be your best bet. I've had great success with jiffy pucks indoors, over 95% germ rate. If you can't keep your friends outta your closet so u can sprout your beans, get new friends or stop growin pot in ma's house!

heating pad really helps. I dont know about you, but I have two feet of snow outside my window and the temp is -5, not the ideal place to germinate seeds.

I wasn't planning on doin it now! haha Im not that slow :p but yeah i hear ya on the new friends part!! very nosey, my ma's house? please lol, I was just thinking germing in those jiffy pellets would be easier on site, i wasnt sure if it would work or not

If you do it outside and can't visit them every day you would want to use the dome or something to capture the moisture or they will dry out rather quickly. The other thing, if you plan to plant in the ground at the site you have chosen, just put the puck in the ground and that will help keep it moist longer.
