It's a weird condition. I put up with it for 15yrs before it finally went away but that involved an ablation. A few of them.

To this day my heart skips but it's not the same. Now I have a heart rate average of 50bpm. Many times nurses ask if I'm an athlete...my answer...do I look like an athlete? 😂 Im fucking 61.

Afib is kinda scary. Don't ignore it. It can cause blood clots in the heart.

Clearly I haven't ignored it and am on a Eliquis blood thinner.

My resting heart beat is 54 BPM and I was an athlete until my 40's. I've seen it as low as 45 bpm lying down and doing Zen breathing.

I'm not implying you do. But it a thing that can be easily put off until your in the hospital with one side of your heart beating 150 and the other 80..lol. wild ride that one was..lol.

I take plavix for a blood thinner. The eliquis tore me up. Did you get nausea real bad when ya first took it? I had to stop it a few times for a stent and when I'd restart it omg the nausea was horrible.

For some really good news, now that I've been off the DULoxetine for a week, my Afib has gone away. Until I got weaned off I was having it every other day.

For some less positive news, my new cardiologist stated that he didn't think it was caused by the DULoxetine and told me I could keep taking it. Not being nearly as gullible and stupid as I look, I haven't.

When I asked him what he thought caused it, he said, "Oh, your age and since you had it once before, you are more likely to get it again.

When I told him the first time was caused by flu and unbalanced electrolytes, he just waved it aside and reminded again how old I am.

He could be right, but the longer I continue to be Afib free now that I am off the DULoxetine, the more convinced I am and wonder if he is trying to cover for the doctor that prescribed it??
Your doctor is full of shit and he knows it.

AFib), duloxetine (Cymbalta) can be associated with cardiovascular adverse events including AFib, particularly when used at high doses, as it can increase heart rate and blood pressure, potentially contributing to arrhythmias like AFib; however, most studies indicate that the risk is considered low and further investigation is needed to fully understand the relationship between duloxetine and AFib.

Key points to remember:
  • Potential for cardiovascular side effects:
Studies have reported cases of AFib among patients taking duloxetine, alongside other cardiovascular adverse events like hypertension and tachycardia.

Conclusions: Long-term duloxetine use could cause significant cardiovascular problems in older individuals, particularly those who already have cardiovascular difficulties. Regular monitoring of cardiovascular function and early steps such as dose adjustment or drug withdrawal of duloxetine may reduce the prognosis of ADRs. More studies are required to create safer treatment strategies for managing depression and anxiety in older people with cardiovascular issues.

I took it dead serious and immediately addressed it both times.

I got no noticeable reaction from taking Eliquis other than I bruise more easily.

Fortunately I was taking it for pain management rather than depression, although I notice my sense of humor was reduced weaning off it. It didn't do much for the pain either, so no loss there.

Y'all ever get those belly shot blood thinners. I mean right in the gut. Shit stings like fire.
Just once, first time I was in the hospital. Took one, didn't care for it, asked the nurse if there was an alternative, and she said walk. So I did. I'd take one, sometimes two laps around the ward. The shot wasn't that bad, but if a few minutes of walking will do the same, I'll take the walk. I really don't like taking drugs of any kind.

Good news! Glad the Afib is gone. Bad news is, I think you should keep looking for a heart doc. Sounds like the new one is as stupid as the old one.

They hit me with those things around the clock for days after bypass surgery. I hated to see them coming. Gets sore after a while.
