When I was a kid, if you got store bought candy, it meant it was a two income family, which was rare at the time. Back in the day, it only took one mule to pull a wagon. The women would start baking a couple of days before Halloween making cookies, cupcakes, popcorn balls, etc. There was a sweet old lady at the far end of my allowed range that had a chicken barn that was heated, and she'd let you in and hand you a mug of hot apple cider made from her apple orchard with a cinnamon stick in it and let you warm up before heading back out. You held the cup in your hands to unthaw your fingers. Tasted good.
Used to hit the neighbor's house two or three times to get her popcorn/peanut balls. Changed masks so as not to look like a pig. Found out years later that she knew I was doing it. Said it made her feel good that I liked 'em that much. I still make her recipe and think of her every time.

We got lots of homemade candy and popcorn balls trick or treating when I was a kid too, as well as penny candy.

Yep Then the shitbags started with needles and razorblades in the apples and candy bars
I remember folks going to their local hospitals to get their kids bags x-rayed for free. TINS

Have you actually heard of a real case? I always figured the people that started this were the ones that didn’t like the “devils holiday”

Cloudy mit der rain, starting at 42F and predicted to reach 52F.

I had my appointment with my pain doctor, who referred me to a surgeon for a second opinion, ordered imaging of my hips, and gave me a prescription for DULoxetine for pain.

Gym first thing this morning and then back to puttering.

Good morning Misfits. Had a rough night, can hardly move so I am still in bed. My baby's housekeeper gets here at 8:00, so I am getting ready to smoke a bowl and wait for my brother to call.

Got candy for the kids tomorrow night, but still need to get the rest of the decorations put out. We have a motion activated mummy that plays Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and starts dancing, which goes in the front window by the door. We drew a face on a pumpkin with a Sharpie and set it on the front porch, have some ghosts that hang in the windows, and Grim Reaper which hangs on the front door. It's fun to see the kids dressed up in their costumes, and we have plenty of candy (enough for us, too).
