I've done both, but I guess I prefer slightly dry. I'll hang the plants 'til the sugar leaves droop, cut the buds off the plants, and then trim. Then it's cure time.

I should add that I don't bother with the popcorn buds. Those go straight into ziplocs and into the freezer to be made into hash.

If you let them dry until the smaller branches snap when bent those larfy sugar leaves will break off with the touch of your scissors. That way most all sugar leaves are removed. Sugar leaves contain chlorophyll which is harsh on the back of the throat. I guess that is a Cali trim.
