Is This a Good Place To Grow?

anyway i got a free 1000 watt HPS lamp. so i figured id try it lol anyway i wanna grow it in a closet. the dimensions on the closet. its 5 feet wide, a little under 8 feet tall, and a bout a foot and half deep.

If you look around on the site you will notice that the Growers on here can make anyspace work wonders.

Its seems like a decent space. i noticed that your door opens into the closet, am i right or seeing things.

Does the closet have a vent of anysort you can use?

i will host them on another site sorry. and yes the doors do open. as far as ventilation there isnt a vent i dont think. but im weighing my options on that now.

It looks like it can be done, but you will have to do some modifying, those folding doors will leak light, your going to have to ventilate it somehow. With it being an apartment, your going to have to put things back to the way they were before you moved in there...so are you handy enough to do this without screwing things up? (hanging doors, patching drywall, possible wiring) If your not you may want to consider buying a tent off E-Bay.

Also being in an apt., on your lease how much time do they have to give you before makeing maintenence checks on smoke detectors, and yearly inspections etc? Can your landlord/manager or maint. man come in whenever they want or need to. When I lived in an apt. I only grew outdoors, other than starting seeds in a closest...a full blown grow can be dangerous. Just some stuff to think about.

Do your homework son. If it was me and I was just doing a few plants. Why bother reconstructing the closet? Buy a $150 tent, set light and ventilation up, get your ladies(hopefully) in there and grow some knots.

Welcome. Make your intial decisions on what method your gonna go with, hydro, soil, etc. Read thru all the stickys in each section. Then holla with questions. They give a huge jumpstart. Like going to 2 year college, then out into the real world. GL.

PS, order some high quality genetics. Save yourself some possible dissapoinment. Some will say practice with random seeds. I say order a few extra and start with quality.

Welcome minimafia great to see another person taking control and growing their own. I would be very carefull with a 1000w in that little room. You're going to need to have a fan mounted in the corner to move air around. If your hood isn't air cooled i would put a fan blowing on it. I would consider removing those doors building one out of some foam board or something so you don't have to worry about them doors swinging in. Also you will definately need to have ventilation sucking air out. Best bet would be to have it mounted at the top of the closet (i would put it above the light). Then you will also want either a fan blowing in fresh air or have a way that it can be sucked in and just make sure that your exhaust fan is a big bigger than needed and it will work fine. Anyways if you need more help try the growroom setup and design section lots of good info. Best bet to know what's best for you is just to start reading up on it yourself. But if you get stuck just ask cause there's some really knowledgable helpfull people on this site. good luck and peace out

yeah i got some seeds from a bag. but it was a bag of uk cheese which is pretty good ****. so i figured i cud skip ordering seeds unti this one is is grown. ima go check out the set up stuff. i still gotta get pots and stuff. but how wud i knowif my ballast is air cooled? its got little vents on it

its not the ballast that is air cooled its the hood, the bulb shall be in a container with a reflective top and glass bottom and air pushed in one side and out the other to keep the bulb cool, that was it doesnt transfer heat into the grow area,

Did the free hps set up you got come with any hood for it? or just the ballast and bulb?

you should have a look through the light threads it will help you alot. and search electrical ballast and hps lamps on wikipedia or google so you know how they work.

yeah its a white Little box but the little box plugs in the wall.

With a closet that small it is better to hang the light at least 4 to 5 feet above the plants. I do this anyway even in a 15' x 15' room. It allows a majority of the heat to stay above the plants.

Does this house have attic access? if it does that makes ventilation much easier. As for cooling, depending on you geographical location, you can use the outside air to provide both fresh air and air for cooling until the weather heats up.

Also i see that you have left the bulb in the hood while it is not in use. Make sure that you clean that bulb extremely well with a clean, dry t-shirt or microfiber rag before you power it up to remove oils from finger prints etc. other wise you will be buying a new bulb.

and yes it is an excellent place to get started

thx alot. i live in the suburbs of chicago. but i dont really have an attic. but yeah i figured i can let cool air in. i just hope i can get a plant to yield alot of me and have it be crazy flame bud. like teh stuff i see in high times lol

if you can keep your environment ample for that closet and have access to all the required nutes you can possibly get up to a qp per plant. in my rooms i am up to 1lb4oz per 1000w light.
