is a pot 18 inches in diameter and about the same deep big enough for a plant?

outdoor grown in the south usa it has good soil bc i dont want to mix it in with the red clay found around here is this pot big enough, if not, why not ?

I think that is plenty of room,
but as you grow, keep an eye out near the drain holes. If you start to see that it is getting root bound, bust a move. Simple
smoke in peace

that sounds like itll be fine.. i have mine in similar size buckets.. 5-gallon size tree buckets.. went from one gallons to these, and within the first week got almost a foot of growth but like king said, if you see lotsa roots creepin out from the side, its time for something a bit roomier

a standard.."rule of thumb", followed by most growers, is one gallon of soil/medium per 1 foot of plant...e.g. a 5 gallon bucket will support a 5 ft plant sufficiently.
..that's not saying that a 7' monster can't be grown in a 3 gallon pot, just a general referrence to go by.
