Very strange. I was growing one of my hybrids (50-50 Aurora/Oaxaca) in the grow room but it's getting too hot now so I decided to switch off the lamps and fans and move outdoor. (It was just the clone mom and the hybrid)

The hybrid has got to about 2 feet high or so, and was alternating nodes, but I thought it would go quite a while and get a lot bigger ... but ...

Now I returned from 6 days holiday and I discovered it has started to flower, (female) despite the fact that the days are getting longer and definitely we're getting enough daylight so as not to (normally) trigger flowering.

It's like this hybrid is behaving like an autoflowering type. It is just a 50-50 indica/sativa mix I created. Is this normal do you think?

wat light cycle u have it on when inside.
doesnt MJ take a while before it knows wats to do when encountered wit a light cycle change like say if it was on the road to flowering indoors and u put outside wit 18 give or take an hour it should go bak into veg but might take a while to readjust to the change.. just goin off what i have read anyways. but im sure someone will corect if i am wrong..

I had it on 18/6 inside because my clone mum was in there too.
I took it out around a week ago ... hmmm ... daylight hours are less than 16 right now, more like 14.
But I took the clone mom outside at the same time and that has remained in veg.
The clone mom is pure indica while the one that's flowered is 50-50.
Actually the flowering hybrid is more like 3 foot tall right now, I get the feeling that it has reached maturity quickly and that's why it has flowered.
Not that I mind, I am curious to see what height it reaches outdoors.

Ive seen something like this one other time a few months ago. My buddy grows two strains and has a huge mother plant for each strain. He will cut about ten to twenty clones off the mothers for each grow he does. One time while he was rooting his clones under 18/6 one of the clones started budding. He has been growing that strain for over six years and has never seen that happen. The clone was about three inches tall and it was clearly budding. There was about twenty other rooting clones in his clone box and none of them were budding. He let me take it home and I put it under 12/12 and just finished budding it. I ended up with about an ounce of some really good bud.

Freaks of Nature!!!! Weird things happen sometimes and they cant always be explained.

It would be really useful for me to have an early flowering strain. I am not planning to continue with it because though I have seed, the potency was just average and it made bud that had a 'fluffy' texture - you know what I mean - instead of the solid buds I get from my Aurora plants. I think for my next experiment in breeding, I'll get a top notch sativa from somewhere.

OK I think I doped this one out, LOL.
I found a daylight chart for my area and it's like, we're only getting a bit less than 13 hours right now. And evidently that is not enough to keep them in veg, because guess what, the mom has gone into flower too.
The maximum daylight is less than 14 hours according to the chart and that only for a few weeks.
I think I'd better plan for using the grow room for a few weeks at least to veg the clones before bringing them outside. I can use the CFLs it will be cooler than the HIDs.
So what think you. My logic make sense?

I think you 'nailed' it miner.. the sudden reduction in light hours triggered them.
I've found that 16/8 is "friendlier" to early OD plantings....OR, 18/6 and wait until your natural light hours increas, before putting them out.

Thanks. This is a real problem. I have the feeling that the local sativa strains are adapted to the short, near tropical, days. I guess I'll have trouble all the time with early-flowering indicas outside. Now if only I could build a twelve foot tall grow room...

Leafminer, I want to also learn more about this concept of a clone flowering early in the season when daylight is increasing because I also have a nice female indica/sativa (going by the name of canadian super bud) that is 5 months old which I will be using as a mom for outdoors. I do not know if it will flower right away and turn hermie or reveg or what??
