looking for ideas on how to protect plants ( 7 -9footers )from upcoming rain.too much mold last year. rain every other day.i bought some 2by4s 8 footers 3.50 each.cut them into thirds for stakes.finished @1 1/8 by1 1/2by 8 foot, cut a pointed end, painted black.work great and cheap.ran green 3/4in.garden tape from stake to stake on 4 corner stakes @4,51/2 and 6 ft.off ground.also, earlier had put 3 green fence stakes(4footers)@4,8, and 12 oclock around each plant and hard wired each plant to stake from blowover.biggest concern is future mold from almost daily rains

Wow that's a lot of plants. I would build a PVC frame and cover in plastic as 7greeneyes said.

maybe a bit tough now that they so Big newbietoo but yeah I use 20 foot 3/4" pvc and 6 foot 1/2" rebar....I pound the rebar in the ground 3 feet and use as a holder for the pvc...on on each side and bend the pipe over to them...I also make clips useing 3/4" pvc..use tablesaw set at 3/4 and cut the pipe to make a saddle...Ill be showing this in the thread as soon as I put up the plastic...

let me know if I can help..plants look stunning

take care and be safe

THANKS, you guys have been so much help..was at home depot today looking at 1 1/2 in. pvc.am thinking maybe of building roof about 16 foot by 12 foot with intermed.framing at4 ft. centers running the short way connected to outside frame with 3 way tees.in each corner a 1 1/2 in. elbow facing down.can attach 5 mil vinyl to roof before erection.then cut (2)10 ft.and (2)9 ft.legs. they would sit over rerod as prev. described.leg height difference for roof pitch....pvc great idea surprisingly cheap....question,best way to attach poly to pvc???any thoughts

Check out what I did. It's 16' long by 12' wide. 8' high at the vertical pieces. 10' high at the top of the arc. All in 3/4" pvc. The six mil plastic didn't stay for more than an hour with weatherproof ductape. Ended up poking two small holes at each support an used a zip tie. Working great. Still contemplating how to do the top and use zip ties with out water leakage. Did the whole thing for about $120 in material. Glue, fittings, pipe, 6mil plastic, everything.... Good luck

maybe self tap,hex head,1 in. sheet metal screw w/alarge washer.similar to a 3/16 fender washer but made of rubber or plastic, something flexible.after securing poly coat each screw head, washer w/ a dab of silicone caulk to stop any drips.
this is jmo on securing poly, sheet metal screws are great.COOOL ROOF

note; forgot to mention, use self tap DRILL BIT type heads on screws.NOT pointed heads as these may crack pvc.if you have not used these, they will self tap into 3/16in.steel.coool

I use a car cover frame to encage my plants then when the rain comes, put the tarps over it. If it gets super cold we also put the tarps around the plants too, keeps frost away pretty good.

Im affraid the screws dont hold...

You can do the same thing I did with bigger pipe as well..just find the cicumphanse(sp) of the pipe and cut 1/4 away...
the reason I use long rebar is so if I need too I can raise the roof

i tried the screws in the only piece of pvc i had, it is 3 in. dia.-3/32in. thick wall and a couple screws held firm.i did keep the clutch at 2nd lightest setting as to not strip.
i LOVE your ingenious idea of using pvc pieces to hold plastic on.
are these clips the same dia.as the pipe theyre covering ???do they snap on tight enough to hold against slippage???
these clips would make ideal washers to screw thru if req'd.nice pics

Thanks girl....Yes those are made from the same size pipe is why any size should work....ya say thick wall?? then just buy the same size pipe in thin wall....I like 200ps1 for the clips..I use sch40 for the hoops...as for the screws not working..I ment against the winds and heavy rains we have here In Seattle...Ive used my clips now this be 3rd yr:aok: on holding plastic...heres a link to last summers grow give ya an idea of what I did...skim through the thread..http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55787..and if ya need any help..give a shout..

cool clips, did you say they could be bought?? home depot?am NOT a female but old construction worker.checked out yur hoop houses.ideal for single, middle size plants.like very much the rerod thing too.gonna do a 16ft.by 12ft.area using many of your ideas.send pics @some pt. thanks bud...NOT a girl..

so sorry just figured from pic ya was Female....:hitchair:..

yes you can buy those clips at Home depot..but they are spendy..like 80 cents each...I can buy a 10 foot piece of 3/4 in pvc for 1.10...make like 60 clips..

and the Houses I have made out back I can raise up the rebar and use a clamp....I can raise these upto 16 feet high...Not that Ihave too theis year..but a few years back I fell off ladder tryn to place the plastic by myself...Ive learned from my own mishaps..let me know if I can help bro...again..my appolagies MAN:p

that was my ssweepea.you have been great help-thankyou-pics coming next month or so
