im two weeks and 2 days into a vegg on my first grow. i started out with plastic cups with holes in bottom filled with MG potting soil. set in old ice chest with 3in of water for first 2weeks.

lights are a 120w sylvania spot gro 3" bulb, and an 18"floresecet "f13t5ww" Hg with a cover ( for growth upward purpose mainly). set for a 24/0 lgiht sched for first 2 weeks about 12" from weeds.

i started noticing the first set of leaves( the small rounded edged?) are yellowing to brown( thought might be first signs of root rot), so i decided to removed to chest and set cups directly onto towel to dry soil.

also i bought and applied Garden Club premium slow release plant food(organic all-purpose). installed small fan and lights to a timer and switched to a 18/6 day . i also mist deluted seltzer water directly to plant every 3-4hours during day light hours for the past few days. ( as to let the roots breath w/o drying the whole plant?)

temp is controlled better with the fan and stays about 80-85 during light and dropped down to 73 tonight. was a big prob with the chest( like it insulated it in,duh).lol

i know not to expect all 12 of my plants to survive2 months of growing, especially not knowing enough of what i should... so i post my setup and hope for the best...

also i have atteached images to this post of the proceses i have taken... i hope this is enough info to solve any further problems i may encouter... could not insert them directly... ???long time since forum use, do pictures need to be hosted for them to stick to thread???

full of questions and eager to share my new found interest for hobby...
:)

Your problem is your soil, its pre nuted, that is totally wrong for MJ, it over feeds them, MJ needs no feed for 3 weeks, what your doing is like giving a baby a 20 ounce steak and making it eat it and wondering why it just puked on the table :)

Take them out of that soil and use non nuted soil.

From your description it sounds like you have the plants sitting in 3 inches of water, please tell me this is not true.

How tall are your plants?

Absolutely get rid of MG soil. my first ones looked like yours to long of stem sprouting to fast from mineral OD. they were great for a week or two then rolled over and died. watch the videos read ALOT. be choosy on soil, lay off fert. WATCH VIDEOS. read more try again. looked to me like lights were to far away also, thus the stretch upwards look. im not pro yet, so watch videos and read.

rgr on the soil, just got stimlius check going out tomorrow to get better dirt, hope its cheap lol... thinking about the potting pellets?

they are no longer in anywater till soil drys more...will take car of that tomorrow too...

plants are about growing straight up darn near tallest is about 6" but some are not far from that...
great exspession about the baby. i have one on way now, ill try not to feed him that much...lol

thanks on repling to my post so quickly...

Hey thats not fair, I had to work without your pictures
You have just added them :p

You need to re pot your plants in non nuted soil, you need to plant your babies to the red mark, all of them so they are the same height, then you need to lower your lights down because at the moment they are way to high and the plant is stretching trying to reach the light source :)

P.s, your pots are no good, it lets light through them, they need to be opaque, light kills roots.

rgr hope lowes has what im looking for...
you say to the red mark? do i curl the stem? or since ive a bottle of "RootTing" can i 45* cut below that and start shorter?

was worried that the light were burning them. heard if its warm to the hand it is warm on the plants? so i spaced accordingly about 14"on that photo
yea sry bout the pics hit send and had to edit?

The stems are very bendy, you will need pots 4 times the size your using now, you wont have a problem re potting them deep enough :)

Do not cut them, they will die!

Lower your lights to half the distance they are at now, and get a small fan to blow on the plants to strengthen the stems and blow the heat away :)

rgr thanks for all the advice... will update tomorrow. have a digi cam to upload fresh photos... but for now im hitting sack got alot of potting to do and smoke...

The reason your sprouts are stretching is these lights are no good for MJ growth, either use more florecent lights or get a HPS setup.
