Hiya Im new, any help?

I have ordered from our sponsor The Attitude Seed Bank, nl.com and also Everyonedoesit Seed Bank with no problems what so ever.:aok:

There's a list of seed banks in one of the other sections. :) Marijuana seed banks section..

Where did you get the seeds that you have and how do you know what they are if you did not get them from a seedbank? The Attitude seedbank is a reliable seed bank that carries many many different breeders' strains. There are many trustworthy seedbanks out there to choose from.

I would recommend starting out simple (I looked at fogponics once, but it seemed fraught with lots of potential problems). If you want to run hydro, run individual DWC buckets or a simple ebb and flow. If you want to run soil, start reading up on soil mixtures.

Perhaps the most important question is what kind of space you have to do this and how much money you have to do it? You really should have a space all set up before you germinate a single seed. So, how big a space and what is your budget?

Thanks pcduck and powerplanter for the information regarding seed banks! Very helpful! ;) Im checking a few now.

And The Hemp Goddess (very awesome name) :), I got them from a buddy of mine and he got them from a buddy of his. I would like to try new strains to experiment with flavors and tastes and such. I have grown in soil a few times, still learning though, and i would like to try hyrdo and fogponics eventually. But for now i will stick with soil until my experience is a little higher. I have around $1,500 to spend on my grow area (i doubt i will need this much) but its better to be safe than sorry ;) and the area i plan to use this time is large enough for at least 10 or so plants but im only going to try out 2 or 3 to start. Dont wanna overload myself ya know. Plus i plan on keeping a journal and i would prolly get confused with too much to tend to since i have never kept a journal before. Thank you for the advice :)

For 10 plants, I think I would go with a room at least 30 sq ft. Are you going to make a room or use a closet or buy a tent? With 30 sq ft, I would run 3 600W HPS in air cooled hoods. For 2-3 plants, you can start with a single 600W. If you have room, it is really nice to set up a separate vegging space. Your vegging space can be about 1/2 the size of your flowering space. I like T5s for vegging. You will need ventilation--read up on that.

Be a little leery of seeds that you got from a friend of a friend--they could be anything. If they are bagseed, you have a greater chance of having hermie genetics and/or you are never sure where the pollen came from--it could be ditch weed. Since you do have a decent budget, I would like to encourage you to buy some decent genetics so you know what you are growing. You will have an idea of their nutrient needs, you will know what to expect from the high, you will have an idea on flowering time and potential yield. In addition, there is probably someone who has grown the same strain. I am quite partial to Mandala strains. They are easy to grow, the seeds are affordable, and they are resistant to pests and disease.

Thank you Rosebud!!! Your always so helpful! :) I was planning on putting up some of those ventilation tubes around my room running up through the attic and out the attic vent fan, plus i have a ceiling fan in there and im sure that will help. I already cut a whole in the closet wall in that room giving me access to the plumbing of the bathtub in the hallway bathroom (you cant even tell if your standing in the bathroom). I was thinking of either attaching some extra pipes to those pipes that are already there so i can just turn the water on and off from the grow room, hopefully the bathtub will still work heehee, if not i will just say screw it and make it where the bathtub doesnt work from the bathroom but i can still use the water from it for the grow room, no one uses it anyways. If i could figure it out i would love to set up an automatic watering system thats runs off the bathtub, but that may be over doing it and getting a little too ahead of myself. :) But i wont worry about all that until im ready for more than just 2 or 3 plants.

Thank you Hemp Goddess :). The room I am using is a spare bedroom its about 26sqft or so i guess im a little off but hey i was close! Since im only going to try 2 or 3 plants to start i was going to build a removable mini room in the corner until im ready to try a larger amount. Hell i may even keep the mini room for storage or experiments, who knows? I was reading a bit regarding HPS and MH lights. What is the main difference between the 2? Which is better? What is a T5? And i will read a bit more about ventilation and lighting. ;) I will spend some moneys on some nice seeds after i experiment a little first. The seeds i have came from some green i smoked that my friend's friend grew, it was perty decent with a nice taste and high, true he was growing a couple different types at the time but hey if they mixed that could be a nice experience. :D Thank you im checking out Mandala strains now. Any other advice you could give would be greatly appreciated :)

I use t-5 fluorescent for veg and hps for flower, IME hps is the best for flowering. I have a 400 watt mH that I no longer use as I have found that the t-5's are cooler with less watts and plenty of lumens for veg. Also with t-5's you can just about have the plants touching the bulbs, whereas mH you can't

Here is a link of the t-5's that I use, Just change the XX to tt

Thanks pcduck im checking it now! :) And thanks for information as well. I can use all the help i can get. Eventually, way down the road, i want to creat my own strain. I dont much care if it gets big i really just want to make my own strain for my own pleasures but if other people want it then kools.:hubba:

If you use bag seeds, you are taking a chance on hermies. Bags of real dank should have NO seeds, IMO. Growers generally remove and destroy males. I doubt that the seeds were a result of normal pollinization. Seeds like this is a bag that should really be sensimillian are almost always the result of the plant selfing and this can make the hermie gene a dominant gene. I think you are far better off "practicing" with good, known genetics. It is going to take you 4-5 months to go from seed to cured bud--why take a chance with unknown genetics?

Spare bedrooms are going to be far larger than 26 sq ft--at least 100 sq ft, so measure and make a smaller space (it will need to be 100% light tight) that corresponds to the light you want to start out with--3000 lumens per sq ft for vegging and 5000 for flowering.

The main difference between MH and HPS is the spectrum--MH is better for vegging and HPS is better for flowering and gives more lumens per watt than MH. T5s are fluorouscent tubes and are my favorite lights for vegging.

Forget about setting up an automated water system--just too problematic, especially when you are just beginning. And unless you are a plumber, I would caution you on trying to tie into the bathtub water lines. I am both a very experienced grower and a master plumber with my grow in a closet off my master bathroom and I have never found a need to run water to my grow closet.

You are going to need REAL ventilation. Look into 6" or 8" centrifuge type fans (Vortex, Can, Eclipse, etc). A bathroom exhaust fan in an adjacent room is not nearly strong enough to meet the exhaust needs of a room of any size.

They are not bag seeds. He offered me some seeds when i told him i wanted to grow. He is not a dealer he just likes to grow his own so he doesnt have to pay. True is he fairly new to growing as am i, but the bud was really good. Im new to growing but i am not new to smoking. The room is not a large room at all, the house i live in is fairly small. Plus the room is an addition i built myself, not part of the orriginal house.

thank you for the info on lights. :) The idea for the watering system is for the future after i have experience. And i love to do things just for the fun and the learning experience, i know there is no need for it but its still fun to epxeriment. :) I dont want to just grow that is boring, i want to try any idea that pops into my head.

Alrighty i will most deffinately look up the ventilation systems you mentioned. :) Ok so would you suggest buying T5 and HPS? I would like to have the best results.

That is how I grow and have gotten some great results:aok::)

I would buy the 1000w digital ballast that will automatically switch from HPS to MH with a conversion bulb, and the t-5 as well. If you have the cash that is. The t-5's with the MH will get your ladies growing and the HPS will finish them off nicely. Here's some Green MoJo for ya. :)

thank you all for the information! you guys are awesome as hecks! :hubba: im reading about everything you guys are telling me. I knew this was the right site to get into hehe

So where did the seeds come from?

Growing is not boring. I would really recommend that when you are starting out you go with tried and true methods (if you want to end up with bud) and not try any idea that pops into your head (you did say you want the BEST results). If is okay to experiment, but experimentation is useless without knowledge--you need to understand what you are experimenting with. For instance you cannot tweak your nutrients if you do not have a good understanding of what nutrients a plant requires. The same with experimentation with watering methods or soil mixtures.

Get the basics down first--get several grows under your belt so you at least know what this plant takes to grow. There is far far more than simply throwing seeds in dirt and letting them grow.

I know I dont need to jump into anything too advanced, that is why earlier I said eventually I would experiment. Im just running some ideas around to see what people think, I like to plan ahead. But thank you for the advice. :) I dont know where he got his seeds, I never asked. They came from a decent plant he had, and the one he harvested (without seeds) smoked nicely and that is good enough for me. :)
