Im really debating on what lamp to buy and the go space to use it in. Im going to build a box out of osb or plywood either 3x3x6 or 4x4x6 if I use a 600 w lamp in the 9sq/ft box I get 66watts per sq foot. If I use a 1000w lamp in the 16 sq/ft box I get 65 watts per sq foot. Ok so I need your help now. Which set up is going to give me more of a hassle at heat. I dont want to have to buy a window a/c unit because Its going to be in an apartment. So im going to have to deal with ventilation with inline fans. One 6in for the lamp, one 6in for exhaust and one 4in for intake.

Question 1. Can I sovle my possible heat issues with this or am I still going to have some problems.

Question 2. Can I run this setup in an apartmet and if so what would be better live upstairs or downstairs for better ventilation. I kinda think upstairs.

Question 3. Is the 1000w lamp going to make that much of a difference people say there the best. But I hear good things about 600w lamps too.

Anything you guys wanna give me go ahead. Thanks and happy growing:D

I've read that 1000watt are much harder to place to closer to the canopy, unless you have an aircooled hood.

I would recommend 600 watt either way, because you'll have bud coming out of your ears.

I think two six inch fans is a bit excessive.. and you definitely don't need an inline fan for the intake. Inline fans have good.. uhm, torque?.. which is what you want for a carbon filter fan, but in your case, an inexpensive fan (with the same cfm) should work fine.

Would you have an aircooled (with glass plate) hood?

1. It's hard to say exactly. It depends a lot on how hot the ambient air in the apartment is.

2. ..Probably.. Upstairs would help with sound problems. I don't see how it'd make any difference for ventilation though.

3. Not sure.

Not sure if you've lived in an apartment before.. but unless the place central air conditioning, an air conditioner is practically essential (for you, not the plants).

Remember to be carefull.. bringing all that stuff in, even the plywood, seems a little suspicious. I mean what does an apartment dweller use plywood for?

i agree, depends on the climate you live in.i know my 2 400's are hell to cool in the summer and i am in the northern area.i have a 400 something cfm sucking thru my filter, thru the reflector and out the top.another inline duct fan sucking air from my portable ac unit.i would not have had a crop without the ac unit.now since its cooling off,i can draw air from outside to keep my plants cool as i want them.these lights put off more heat than you think,so whatever you decide on,set it up and get it dialed in before you start plants

A 600W gives more lumens per watt than any other wattage HPS lamp. Although I have a 1000W, I have to say that I am partial to the 600W and if I have to replace my 1000W, I would buy 2 600Ws. Ventilation and stealth can be a problem in an apoartment where you cannot freely drill holes for ventilation. Whether you will be able to control the heat/provide enough ventilation depends on your particular situation. The more info and pictures you can provide (we LOVE pictures), the better we are able to advise you. Just from a heat prospective, I would recommend the 600W.
