i got a 400w hps light with a glass slide out bottom. i hooked up a 6in duct and i am curently ******* the rooms air past my bulb and out side. will this take the heat signal away from my lamp. i can hold my hand on the glass and it dont burn at all. any info will help thanx

Heat signal? I would not worry about a 400W light. The only heat I would worry about is the overall temp of your grow area. ;)

i wasent sure how the hole heat signal thing works anyway. so dont even worry about

Some growers here are runnin over 1kw and not worrying about it. ;)
400W compared to your Dishwasher element, Oven, Fridge, heck TV, my tuner is 800W. Hot water heater...too many things to worry about 400W light...now if you had 4kw or more grow then yes, preperations would have to be made.

I'm really thinking of investing in a new hood with a glass cover myself, you can get your light so close to your plants, will make a nice difference

sorry but what is a heat signal? I dont get it

Heat is detectable with infrared imaging devices.
Some cops use it to find large grows.

Hmmm, I wonder how much light is loss because of the glass, and reflective light too? You must need a cooling fan like you have because I'm sure heat build up under the reflector is more. I like the idea of it getting closer to the plants though, still...hmmmmmm

Dont most people use the glass on thier lamps? I went a long time without the glass and the temp of my closet was in the 90s. I recently put the glass on my light and the temp of my closet dropped like 12 degrees and I lowered the light like six inches closer to the plants. Do you think it effects the lumen output at all? The light is made to have the glass there so I think the heat build up in the light is fine.

If you really paranoid about heat signatures then install next to your furnace and water heater. Problem all gone.

Glass is used as a safety feature incase the bulb bursts. Air passing over the light will deplete the lumens by 10%. Although you can make it up since you can put the lights closer. Infared detection would never detect a 400W light. I have 2 1000s, a 4 foot t-5 and 2 two foot t-5s and the ambient temp. stays around 73. I have rooms in rooms though. If you are that worried use a room that has no outside walls, it will look like you have a warm house but not 1 specific room.
