I'm musing about a micro-grow, and one of the things that takes away height is the pot. Anyone have any thoughts on how a long (but shallow) pot would work? Would it just mess up the tap root? Say you had a box about 3 inches deep, 4 inches wide, but long enough to make it hold 5 gallons of soil. Any ideas on how this might work?

i've often thought about that, still haven't tried it. but the taproot would be the biggest issue unless of course planted on one end so that way it'd only go one direction.

True, I'm thinking a clone might fair better and spread out on both sides. I'm thinking if you had the plant in the middle, and watered away from the stem on each side, the roots might stretch for it and fan out. You might have to stake the plant for support, but it "should" work...

why not just use coco in some small small containers and hand water 2-3 times a day... you can use containers 3" deep 4" square and get results in coco i would say..

I reckon it would work, and i reckon the plant would be able to hold itself up, the roots shouldnt get rootbound, because they can go sideways.

But yeah, shallow pot so the roots grow horizontal not vertical :)

The root system and the canopy will just about match each other in size and spread. You will want a shallow container with enough medium in it to equal the canopy spread or square footage you want. Remember, you want to have roots to take nutes for buds, and the key is volume of medium, not depth, in a micro-grow. Everything has to be as flat as a pancake.

The tap root will do it's own LST along with all the other roots. Just feed and water them, man. The roots will make their way...........

PB:)
