So in June I planted my first try at growing. It is about 5 feet tall with amazingly sized buds. Unfortunately, the plant has never smelled like marijuana and the last bud I dried and smoked did not get me high.

I used to have a male plant so a few of the buds are producing seeds but most of them are not. The buds are very furry and the hairs are mostly amber or brown throughout the plant. Is there something I missed that is causing the plant to not produce THC or should I just be more patient?

check the trichomes for maturation. get a micro or jeweler's loupe and look at them.

clear trich's = not mature,
milky trich's =up heady/energetic/rushy buzz
amber trich's= heavier narcotic/couchlock buzz

most ppl shoot for all milky w/ some amber...

edit: here's a good read on trichomes for ya....very well and thoroughly written:

remember to change the xx's to tt's...

:peace:,

I have grown some plants/strains that came in the same seed pack where one plant will have active thc and another wouldn't get you high no matter how much you smoked. Needless to say I do not grow them strains anymore.

when these turn milky and amber...more amber for indicas....my opinon...then its ready..you said first grow and im not sure you even know what trichs are...i didnt my first..you will need a 30x's-100x's magnifier..radio shack $12...to see them

Where did you get the seeds? If they were bagseed, you could have something that was pollinated by ditchweed...

How long have they been flowering? You say you plated them in June but when did you switch them to 12/12?

We need to know way way more about your grow. When in October and where did you get the seeds? What kind and size of light(s) are they under in how much space? Do you have adequate ventilation? What did you feed them? Inadequate light and other growing conditions will result in inadequate bud.

Im for waiting till trich's not hairs are starting to amber but if alot of the plant is pollenated the plant will stop producing THC/trich's in order to produce seed.

Ive had this happen to the very weed I smoke today, turned it into ditch weed.
But wait till its ready for harvest.

Thanks for the help guys. I switched them to 12/12 in october

As THG said we need to know the specifics with your grow. If you switched them in late October or they endured any stress during flowering they may just be immature. 8 weeks of flowering is about the minimum flowering time for most strains, I usually plan on 10 weeks.
