Ok this is my first grow so please any advice is the best advice
First I headed down to the local goodwill and pick up and cabinet that is split in half 24X24X20 each side
So buy it and Mylar the inside of it and screwed in 4 light sockets and 4 60watt cfl's.cut 2 holes for vent and intake. And put a small fan for circulation.
Got it running at 82* flat constant with the lights on. And 25% humidity.
I have now got it all set up and running and I got 6 bag seed germed. I mix up 2.5 parts ff ocean 1.5 parts perlite and set the germed seeds in their own small posts.
I am letting the run 24/7 till week 4. But that is where it all sits here is pix of the progress.

I have no experience with soil I'm on my first hydro grow myself actually. But it looks like you are headed in the right direction. The only thing I would worry about is plant stretch, if it were my grow I personally would want to be able to adjust the hight of my lights to minimize stretch. Other than that looks like you are on your way.

Good luck man.

i have them sitting on some white pots about 4 inch from the lights to limit stretch

Hi Chris. Welcome to MP. Good to have you here. I agree with Tater on this one. I would definitely think about changing your lights so you can move them when you please. You may also want to get some more lights in there. The more the better with cfls. You want to try for 5000 lumens per square foot. I wouldn't add anything else to the soil at this point. They are too fragile. Just my thoughts. Take care and be safe.

i would ad more lights put i had 8 lights in there and it shot up to the low 90's. i dodnt think that is good for the plants but i could be wrong.i have it stable at 81* now and holding. let me know any thoughts..

81 is better than 90's but that little bit of light isn't going to have a good yield. Maybe get a bigger exhaust fan. Just my thoughts. Take care and be safe.

4 60 watts won't be such a terribel yield. The lumen output on those things must be somewhere around 3300, so thats 3300 per square foot which is just fine for veg.

Add another exhaust fan if you can, move the lights closer, and add 2 more 60 watters. That should control your temperatures, and negative pressure is usually a good thing.

i right now have the 4 23w 1200lumen output = 4800. i have a fan in the intake and the exhaust the temp is at 83*. i am going to add 2 mor bolbs to see if the temp is still ok. i will keep you posted.

Do i need to buy anyt more stuff for the grow. i know i need the earth grow bloom but the hydro store was out. i also bought 10 gallons of distilled water for the watering :)

Wchris I like the setup , Later on down the line your probably gonna have to add another outtake fan because its gonna get hot in there, and another two to four bulbs would be decent yield. Those ferts are great just dont need much at all or none for about the first 2 to 3 weeks, i had a problem with that myself where i ferted my plants rather young and it badly stunted growth and hurt my plants in the long run. Good luck

If your growing in soil then take the hydro feed back to the shop, you need soil nutrients not hydro nutrients.

do you think adding a second exhaust fan would help alot it is 77* in the room and 82.4 in the box right now.

ok so i have a update. 3 of the 6 have borken ground. looking good sofar.i picked up a new fan from the pc store and going to add.i was at walmart today and i was looking at lights. and i found some and bought some they are 42 watt cfl with 2700 lumens 8.87 each. so i got 3 of them :) they only had 3 left. so i took all the bulbs i had in there out and put them in now i have 8100 lumens :) i need to put the fan in before i can put anything else in there the temp ios at 87.8 right now. i will get pix of the seedlings as soon as i get them out to put the fan in.

one more thing someone said that the nutes i bought were for only hydros so what nutes sould i get for soil???

ok i got a new fan in there i am running 2 exhaust fans the 3 42 watt 2700 lumens and 2 23 watt 1200 lumens makes a total of 7800 lumens the temp is set at 83.3*.i cant get pix of the seedlings. i need to go to walmart and get a cam my iphone takes terable close ups. but there is a total of 3 that have shown themselves.

ok so i have the temp controlled i am running 77* 24/7 :) i am happy other then that nothing now just go them in biger pots and they are loving it.

A good rule of thumb, match your fertilizer to your medium. Hydro nutes for hydro, dirt for dirt. I also tend to stay away from root stimulators. I added on to early and it killed it. Root stimulator, powder or gel, is more applicable to clones. When choosing a fertilizer, I preffer one lower in strenth than higher, and always go organic. You also won't need fertilizer for a few weeks. Keep in mind for your first grow, the height of the pot and the height of the plant. Transplant before your plant is double the height of the pot. Good Growings!!!

I myself grow with a various flouresent light. I can tell you now, you dont have enough. Like others said they will stretch and since the lights are so far from the nodes the buds that grow, if they grow at all, will be very small and almost not worth the effort. Get yourself a 5 gallon bucket or pot and start it in there, no transplanting. Dont use hydro nutes for soil. Get yourself schultz bloom plus liquid plant food from walmart. Its very simple to use and unless you cant read you wont over do it. Also get a few 4 ft. tube light fixtures and really blend your light spectrum, as you need more then just soft/hard white bulbs to flower anyway.Ill post some pictures here later to show you what Im talking about as well as some of my results so you can judge for yourself. Good luck!
