Electrical ???'s

im sure there are lots of electrical questions out there and i searched a couple related keywords to come up short. I AM NOT an electrician nor do i know however IF there is one in this forum, which i know there is, all the electricians i know smoke. Can you or maybe a couple combined people please that are qualified electricians that know what there talking about take innitiative to answer questions that people may have here in this forum? i want semi-advanced questions in here if possible with similar answers please.

i have a quesion. can you hook a $13.00 bathroom exhaust fan up to a rotary switch so you can control the flow?
i bought one and tried and the only thing i could get it to do was turn it on and off. thanks for any help. sorry for bustin your thread cmak40
