I was reading a post on here about cutting clones under water, something about trapped air in the stem and would hope someone could elaborate on this for me please because i have been having some issues with my clones this time around.

Yes cut yur clones with sterilized razor knife under water so that the fresh cut only draws liquid into stem and not air, ifin yual trap a air lock into stem will ussualy be bad and make clone battle the air lock and not allowin moisture to pass into plant. Good luck and happy growin pilgrem ;)

PS also make cut on 45 degree angle dont just cut it straight cross friend

when you take a clone cutting. they say you should immediately put into a glass of ph'd water, that way you don't get an air bubble trapped in the stem where you made your cut. people also fill a plate or tray with water and make the cut underwater. which is also to prevent air bubbles.

if your having trouble with cloning, please share current method. myself and others would be glad to help you with your technique

if you're doing this. you're doing to much IMO

i saw your clone question earlier, but i've never used an ez cloner, so can't say much there.
but IMO cloning should basically be cut and forget.. no messing around with underwater cuts, watering, or even misting..

my EZ cloner; peat pucks under a store-bought cake dome (i liked the height of this over typical domes) ;)
i do the cut at 45 degree, and trim back fan leaves. but after they're in the puck, under the dome. nothing till roots. they sit under my t5's in the veg area to keep enough warmth and light.

simplicity is best i've always found with cloning.

what are they under for light could it be too strong? high temps?
have you changed anything as you said in your other post you had success untill recently (maybe summer, and to hot? or winter and too cold?)

I have had great success using simple Rapid Rooters. I clip off prospective clones with scissors and put them in a glass of PHed water. I do not cut them under water or even concern myself about a 45 degree angle. I pre-hormone the Rapid Rooter plug with a toothpick or a piece of stem, and cut the clone on the plywood sticking out from my vedge area. I then scarafy the clone end and cut a slit up into the stem, coat the scared end in powered hormones, and stick it down into the Rapid Rooter plug and place it in the tray. They are easier to manage if you clip the leaves, I make sure the plug is soaking up the weak nute solution in the tray and then go on to the next one. When I have as many as I want I place the dome over them and put two small CFLS over the dome. I believe most of my success comes from the next thing I do -- I ignore them completely. I mist them in the morning and at night and don't even look at them in between. I seem to always have plants ready to go into soil in around 7 days when I have a look at the root development for the first time. My real problem is having to toss the extras -- I HATE throwing away viable babies. I consider cloning to be one of the simple things concerning my grows, and I have at least a 95 percent rate of success. -- good luck -- I hope this helps -- works for me....

Peace

^^^^ Hemper has the nicest clones. Mine look terrible beside his. Thanks for posting this Hemper.

."I" have always made a final cut under water, just have.. I seldom lose a cut.
Does it help?...:confused2: Does it hurt?.. most certainly not.

Back in the rose showing day, every cut of every rose had to be cut under water as an air bubble would ruin a rose. Glad i grow pot now.

I don't know if it helps or hurts, just the way I was taught to clone.

I have always had a decent success rate with my ez cloner but this time around something was just terribly wrong and dont know what. So tonight I got sick of losing every clone i put in there so I shut the excloner down and reverted back to using rooter plugs, but this time I followed Hempers directions to the T so hopefully I'll have better luck using this method. I will update. Thx hemper

Good luck KP. Like I said -- it works for me :) Spray in the morning and at night, and don't mess with them in between -- Mine stay green and start producing roots in a matter of days. I hope like Hell it works for you...

Peace

Ditto

except I've never cut under water and seldom lose a cut.

different strokes for different folks

I see making the final cut underwater as an unnecessary chore

.. it takes :confused2: maaaybe 3 seconds
when I remove the cut from the host, it goes immediately into a shallow pan (pie tin) with about 1/2 inch of cloning solution/water. they soak there for a few minutes while I prep the rw/medium. Cut, dip, into rw/medium.

I had a bad issue with air bubbles one time and tried cutting them under water but it didn't help, the bubbles kept coming to the surface and still smelled just as bad :D
