Cull using preflowers as the only sign?

Not usually from the first preflower because I found that some of the time their false but once a bunch of preflowers show and I'm confident of *** I will. Once I get a bunch of preflowers bunched in on one internode and that I can with 100% determine what *** it is i'll put them off early for breeding.

Once I see a male flower I wait untill I see two and then move the suspected dude into an area to make damned sure he is a boy. Its been my history that its easier to illuminate all the plants that dont get female pistils as the girls seem to indicate first.
You can place a suspected male even in a dark area just to watch and make sure hes a homie.

Thanks guys. I'm going to have to leave my 3 plants unattended for 4 days-almost 5, and I have one I'm pretty sure is a boy. He outgrew the others from day one and is really big, with big leaves and just a really fast, good grower. I can see what I THINK to be the ball on a stick at a few nodes.

I need to put them into flower (they're ready) when I'm gone to cut down on heat. I'm running 24/0 right now. I have 2 oscillating fans in the room and I'm able to leave the door open almost all the time to maintain temps around 80 during the day and 75 at night because it's a closet.

I would just hate for him to continue his growth spurt and put out a little pollen while I'm gone. That's why I'm asking.

I do kind of like Sub. I take all of them that have the male nub and move them into a corner of the room. I usually see males first, but not always. I usually keep them until they are blatantly obvious, or the females have popped the pistils out.

I rarely put plants into flower to find out the ***. I almost always catch them in veg, with pre-flowers.

When is the earliest a male will produce ANY pollen? Will it if I continue to veg it?

I always plan for taking the first available top and I put it into a cupboard and flower it for 10 days on a 10 on/14 off lighting schedule. This flowers the cutting while leaving the plants in veg. Then, when the cutting shows ***, I yank what plants are male and continue the grow with the Mom plants never seeing anything but 24/7 lighting. I always use clones unless growing a new strain. Then I only grow Mom plants for cloning. My plants that are used for smoke are always clones. It takes longer to grow a Mom plant and then take and root a cutting, but with some planning, it's no biggie.

I am pretty sure when there is a Male flower there will be pollen in it, it may not be open yet, but the pollen is there.

I don't know if pollen is viable in a male plants juvenile life before opening the flower, but either way, it's another reason to take a cutting and flower it in another room for 10 days. If the flower does open then, you're still safe in the "real" grow.

I have heard of people getting pollen from males still in veg, but I have not seen it personally...I'd say if you see pollen, it's more than likely viable.
