This guy moved in to my tomato plant tent, phidippus audax. Definitely a male. I'm told he eats caterpillars, dragonflies, grasshoppers, flies, moths, ants, aphids, spider mites, and fungal gnats. I hope he sticks around, and I hope I can find him a girlfriend!

I have a ton of regular Bubble Gum Auto X Wedding Glue Auto seeds and decided to grow a few in the tent with my tomatoes. Maybe get some auto pollen finally. Only one even germinated, and it died before opening its first leaves.

I figured it was the seeds, since I've had trouble with other seeds I made around the same time. I then stuck 12 in grow plugs hoping I would get a few good ones. Most were up in 2 days, and all of them on the third.

I put them in 1 gallon pots in the back room after sterilizing it with ammonia and bug spray. I even stuck a wifi camera in there to keep track of them. It will even alert me if it sees a jumping spider : )

Success has made me bold. I'm now trying to start 4 Supafreak regulars. Maybe my Supafreak auto plans will make it past the planning stage this year...
Oooh I would Love to try some testers someday if it happens

Looks like they all survived the move from nursery to pot. The smallest was a helmet head for the first 2 days before I took pity on it and removed the husk. Not sure if that's a genetic trait or just the angle it started in the grow plug, but I don't think I will use it for crossing with the Supafreaks. The shells on the freaks are hard enough as it is.

Going to have to put a better camera in there, but it's sort of cool to be able to check on them from work. The temperature keeps wanting to climb into the 90's. last night I gave in and replaced the 4" fan in that little room with a 6" fan. I wasn't willing to turn the lights down : )

Nice to wake up in a less insane world. Only thing I checked before checking my plants : ) Still looking for a better camera, but at least I can see they are still growing. Maybe it's time for some diluted nutrient water.

I have a better camera coming. If it's good enough I want to give one to my mom who has macro degeneration and can't read her thermostat anymore. She can point the camera where she needs to see, and I can read/interpret whatever it is for her.

No joy on the Supafreak seeds. All four are just sitting there in the grow plugs doing nothing. I dropped 8 more in some water after sanding the edges, and they haven't sunk in 48 hours. I'm thinking I need to crack these seeds before dropping them. There's just no way they are all sterile.

One of the 8 SF seeds I left floating in water cracked open today, and I could see the sprout inside. The rest were still floating there doing nothing. I decided to crack the original 4 seeds and the 7 floating seeds to see if that would work. The first one I tried was crushed by my fingernails, so I went scrounging around for a seed cracking tool of some kind...

It works perfectly. I can hold the seed on edge while clamping down on it. And there is a sudden release of tension when the shell cracks. Doesn't seem to mater if the seed was soaked first or fresh out of the seed bag. I looked on Amazon and found an outside micrometer for $16 which I might order to avoid messing up the ones I actually use to measure parts.

Great stuff. Nice device ya found there.

That poor poor seed.😱
😁

Much better camera. The little ones got some nutes yesterday, and they grew a lot overnight. I guess I was starving them before. They are stretching a little, though. If the temperature stays below 90 today, I'm going to turn up the lights some.

Hmmm, I may have returned to growing too soon... I don't even know what this is, actually. Doesn't look like thrips or spider mites. No actual bugs on front or back of the leaves. Anyone have an opinion?
