So I've dried it until the stems crack instead of bending and the outside of the buds is pretty dry-seemingly just short of falling apart when I touch it. Should I go into a brown bag next, or into mason jars? If I go into the brown bag, how long should it stay there before curing in the mason jars?

I've read contadictory threads-some use the brown bags, some don't. I'm just very confused here.

If there that dry go right to the jar and leave them closed tight for at least a day then open them if they are bone dry just seal it up for good, if not you can burp the jars.

The brown bag is just to slow the drying process, thats what you need to do for the smoothest smoke.

I skip the Bag but have to open my jars many times to finish out the drying process before I seal them up for good for a nice long cure.

Growdude said it. If they are that dry, go ahead and put them into the mason jars for a good cure. Open the jars once or twice a day for 10-15 minutes to let the excess moisture out. When you open the jar and the buds are perfectly dry, just leave them sealed for as long as you want to cure. Take care and be safe.

MHO: Brown bagging just beats the trics and pistils off perfectly good pot if it's dry. Like the other guys said, jar it, check the stems in a day or so, if they're bendy again leave the top off the jars for a bit, but try to do it in the dark and cool. After a bit, the moisture stabilizes, and there you go.

Yeah, PH, I've noticed that a LOT of pistils have come off in the bag! Ok, thanks for the good and fast responses. I've moved batch 1 to the jars. Thanks guys!

Hello AG :)

If you jar and you find bendy stems after a day or 2 its best to take the buds out and let the buds air for an hour or so and then re jar them.

Lay them flat in the dark with warm air moving turning the buds half way through.

Bendy stem means the inner of the bud is not dry.

If you just burp the buds then the bottom buds stay moistured and these could mould.

:peace:

That is so true about the trichs. I had a couple lbs. in bags last fall and ended up with a full zip of trichs and small bud leaf from what was in the bottoms of the bags. It is basically kief. I need to make hash or finish making kief before it goes bad on me. Go easy on the bags, if you feel the need.

I think the bags are great. Where I am the rh is generally around 38 to 44 during the dry months. This makes hanging bud dry too fast. If I can get it in the bags when the bud tips are dry it seems to work well for me.
