Canadians Favor Decriminalizing MJ

OTTAWA, July 2 (UPI) -- Two-thirds of Canadians say they support ending fines and penalties for possession of small amounts of marijuana, an Ipsos Reid poll indicated Monday.
Sixty-six percent of those polled for Postmedia News and Globe TV said they believe the possession of small amounts of marijuana should be decriminalized.
The poll also indicated 75 percent of Canadians earning more than $100,000 per year are in favor of decriminalizing marijuana, as are 58 percent of those living in households with children and 67 percent of those without children.
The results are at odds with Prime Minister Stephen Harper's position.
"Let me remind you of why these drugs are illegal," Harper said at the recent Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia. "They are illegal because they quickly and totally -- with many of the drugs -- destroy people's lives and people are willing to make lots of money out of selling those products to people and destroying their lives. And no amount of law -- whether it's having the approach in the Muslim world to execution, all the way to full legalization, nothing is going to prevent the reality that this is a trade, people attempting to make rich by destroying people's lives. It's that simple."
Ipsos Reid surveyed 1,009 Canadians online June 18-25. The margin of error is 3.1 percentage points.

its a sad fact of truth here in Canada, decriminalization is a lot closer and more likely than legalization is by far, but in reality neither are about to happen anytime soon, there was a time when i would have said we are way ahead of the U.S.A on this, but it simply isnt true anymore.

Wow....

He be a prim and proper boy reckon and raised with the silver spoon. He be fed fur long time yet free of charge no doubt.

Wow...can you say out of touch with reality....? Anybody of sound mind who has smoked some Dank knows the truth. It is less harmful then Tobacco and Alcohol. Yet they continue to spin it as Drugs are bad with no distinction between actual classes of drugs.
