Does anybody here buy thier bulbs at Home Depot or Lowes? I noticed that they sell 400 hps bulbs pretty cheap but they dont say the lumen output. They are Phillips or Sylvania brand bulbs. They are much cheaper than the local hydro store.

Yup. I run the Philips 400w HPS model C400S51. Below is a link to the same bulb from an online dealer. They say it puts out 50K lumens. Pretty good for a $14 bulb that is readily avaliable to the masses. I keep an extra on hand too, just in case.

I get the 400 from Lowes and love it. Can't beat the price and I get the same results from the bulbs I use to buy from the hydro shop.

I went to Home Depot and got a Phillips 400 hps bulb for $23. I went to Lowes later today and they had Sylvania bulbs for $3 cheaper. When I pulled out my old bulb I realized it was exactly the same bulb that I bought today. The funny thing is that I bought my old bulb at the hydro store for about $20 more than what I paid at Home Depot.

yeah, that is how the hydro shops make their money. i also get my cloning powder from lowes with fantastic results for a fraction of the cost at the hydro shop. the only thing i go to the shop for anymore is foxfarm soil and worm castings. I recycle my soil so i usually only go once a year for new soil.

You probably paid more in gas than the $3 you saved on the bulb.

I live about a mile from Home depot and then lowes is about a quarter mile from there. And if you go another quarter mile past lowes I have nursery/garden store and then in the other direction I have a hardware store right up the road. I never have to go more than 2 miles.

i need to live where you do...thats my vision of heaven...lol

Just wondering if you guys have ever been able to find the housing for the bulbs at hd or lowes.I always see the bulbs but haven't come across a ballast for them there.Whats that about?

yeah you would have to get the 'bay lights' same ones they use in the ceiling of most lowes or depots...you would need to seperate the ballast from the fixture with a heavy duty cord but with a little electrical knowledge it can be done easily..

but in all honesty you'd come out better getting a set-up from ebay or a ballast kit from HTG supply IMO.

I have one...but its just sits....along with another 1kwt

yea...i know?
