Fellow outdoor growers, in my area everyone is old school i guess.
Most growers never heard of trichomes or a pocketscope, they have always harvested when all the hairs are brown.
I have just been studying the trichomes for a couple yr as i also had never heard about trichomes until studying over the net.
how many of you have harvested by the color of the pistils and viewed the trichomes also ?
ive noticed myself when theyre all milky or cloudy(my choice, up high) the pistils are all brown or the biggest part are.
i really dont even bother chking much anymore until i see all the pistils are brown(which to me says the fruit is ripe for the picking, like ripe apples,peaches,etc..) then i'll chk my trichomes.

I always check the trichs before harvesting...even with strains i hve grown before. Although knowing the strain lets you know when to begin to start looking at the trichs.

Added question on this. One of my plants has FRESH, fleshy pistols, yet is showing a bit of amber on one of the main colas. Always go by trichs i'd assume. Right? And is it normal to harvest a plant a little at a time? Like I said, one main cola's about 10% amber, and others are barley showing amber, mostly cloudy. Harvest the one, and let the others keep going? 1st grow, simple questions. Sorry if they seem dumb.

When time permits I harvest in sections....sometimes I need to make room in the flower tent and will yank the whole plant at once.

When my pistils start browning all over I use that as a sign to start checking trichs. Still always check them though to get just the right buzz off my meds

There are reasons that pistils can turn brown that have nothing at all to do with the ripeness of the bud. Some pistils never turn brown. I personally pay no real attention to the color of the hairs.
