does it matter which end of the sealed reflector the fan is on? should the air hit the tip of the bulb first or should it hit the socket end first, or does it not matter?

You should PULL air thru your reflector, not push air thru it. It doesn't really matter which end you "pull" thru, as long as you pull air thru it.
Pushing air thru your reflector will force hot air out of any "leak" you might have, pulling is the way to go.

thanks norcal,
unfortunatly it is pushing the air (lack of experience), and cant re-do the set up, with out huge headaches. after the chop, i will correct it.
atleast I put sealant around the glass of the reflector, and cannot feel any air, but will maintain a watch on this
