I would like to know two things about my nes 600 watt hps light.

1. how far from the ceiling does the light have to be so not to wrry about fire.

1. How far from the top of the plant should it be kept? Room will be cooled at 70-75 all the time. will be venting the light outside the grow area.

I have 44 inches of vertical space to work with.

What kind of reflector? or cooling system?

should have got the lens and flange kit if you are going to vent it.

I did get that add on. It was not included in the sale. It was 65.00 extra for the air cooled kit. This seems worth it in my book.

so now back to the original question. How much space between the lights and the ceiling, and between the light and plant.

hey new 2, Ceiling clearance wont be a problem once you are air cooled. I can set my hand ontop of my hoods on 600's right above bulbs, very warm but not hot. my plants tops are 6-10" from the lense. temps are 87f 4" below lense, 72f at base of 23" plants.

where do you pull your air from? should it be "air conditioned"?

I was thinking of pulling from inside the room since it will be kept cool via A/C and exausting outside the box....

Or do I have the wrong idea of how a air cooled hood works?

You want to pull the air from outside the box and exhaust it out the other side of the box. Take a look in my journal and you will see how I am cooling my hoods. Just remember you want to pull the air through not push it.

The air outside the room is high 90's does that matter?

i see how you ahve your hoods hooked up and thats what I was going to do. I dont have that strong of a fan though, I have an 80CFM and a 140CFM. Do I need to get sommething better?

The optimal temp of the box should be 75-80 is this correct? I plan on putting an AC in place to cool the box.

I pull mine from inside the room, doubles as an exhaust fan also. can't imagine why you wouldn't, unless you are useing co2.

edit: oops, i forgot to answer your other question. I have mine cooled with one of my cheapo inline fans in the DIY section plus a 8" inline booster fan from lowes on each of the 2 lights, the light have about 1/4" clearence between them. Hoods are something like 18x20" with 8" cooling ports(eastcool 8 from HTG). they are on a seperate timer to come on 1/2 hour before and off 1 hour after lights. Out side it is 95 - 100 this last couple weeks. have 10x20 office space sectioned off entry into 10'x10' for business office next isa 4.5'x10' gun room and then the 4.5'x10' grow room. 8k airconditioner blows into the office space. building is pole barn with 2x4" interior walls, sheetrock but no insulation. grow room temps are as above in post. I just open the doors between rooms when the lights come on at 1pm. When it gets warm(about 85f) I turn on the a/c, set to 60f, It never gets near 60 inside but keeps the space cool enough. temps in grow room at 5' above floor is usually about 74f. hope this gives you an idea were to go for cooling your setup.

If you put A/C in there AND it's air cooled I'm sure whatever you do will work because your generating virtually no heat anymore lol.

Im in biusiness...I recieved the light today. I only have an HPS bulb though and it will be a little while until i can pick up a MH. So can I veg effectively with HPS? Do I even need to get an MH?

So will this setup work?

I use the 250cfm duct booster fan to pull through the light. I will hang the duct on the other side just inside the room so the source is the room and the air goes outside the grow area. through the light.

Ballast will be kept outside the grow room

Your right, i probably woldnt need a seperate exaust fan as the hood system can serve both roles...

Mh is supposed to be better for veg, tighter nodes. Hps will work though, better than anything else ya' might have laying around for sure. Exhaust should be ok, You can always upgrade if you have to. Just have to turn it on and start growin' to find out.
