Two construction workers are accused of stealing almost 50 pounds of pot from the evidence vault.

Florence Police are currently undergoing some reconstruction on their dispatch center. In January, part of the project included installing an exhaust fan in vault.

The construction workers were allowed in the vault, accompanied by a police officer. During the installation, they were able to sneak out with a total of 48 pounds of marijuana over a three day period.

"It started with a small amount. They were able to get out with that small amount, got a little braver," said Chief Rick Singleton.

An audit of the vault alerted police to the missing evidence, which lead to the arrest of Scott Raymond Burgert and Bradley Thomas Jones. Both are charged with theft of property first and trafficking marijuana.

As of Wednesday, they have only found four of the missing 48 pounds of pot.

Florence Police are conducting an internal investigation to find out how this happened.

sounds like some police officer was selling some pot! :cop:

You dont just waltz out of the police station with a couple pounds at a time... and make many ...many ...many trips back and forth for a "one day" job.

Think about it.

What if those guys DIDNT do it and the cops pinned them on it....any video evidence??

Would you leave $500 cash in the open while a repairman was working in your house, and then not even pay attention to what they repairman was doing? Of course not. So how are the cops stupid enough to leave 48 pounds of pot in a position where it can be stolen that easily? I think there is a lot more to this story like TOA does. It took them an "audit" of their safe to realize the pot was missing? How much pot is in your safe that you need to perform an audit to notice 48 pounds is missing? What do you normally have like 500 pounds in there?

I had a very similar situation happen to me. I work construction as well. About 3 years ago I was working for a restoration company. There was a flood at a huge hospital and we were hired to do all the work. When it was time to do work in the pharmacy the Narcotics room had to be moved to another location while we redid the room. Well in the temp location they realized after all the narcs were in there that they didn't have enough shelving installed. A co worker and I were accompanied into the 10'x10' room by two of the pharmacy employees and watched like hawks for the fifteen minutes it took us to install two more shelves. The next morning when we got to work we were met by our two bosses and the President of the hospital on the loading dock. We were told that twenty 5mg percocet pills were missing after we had left and that we were being blamed for it. We were both making killer money and could work as many hours as we wanted each week on this job neither of us would have done anything to loose this gig.Not to mention we aren't into stealing or pills.Weed is our vice. We told them that there was no way we were going to get this pinned on us and that they had no proof and we had been pretty much babysat the whole time. Our bosses believed us but the Pres didn't. He knew they didn't have proof so he told us they knew we did it and we were going to be watched. I felt like I was under a microscope for the next 3 months of that job. The screwed up part is that when the pharmacy employees enter the room they do so solo, so any one of them could have seen us in there working and decided hmmm now is my chance and nobody can prove it. I hate being falsely accused, it is a horrible feeling...
