Two construction workers are accused of stealing almost 50 pounds of pot from the evidence vault.
Florence Police are currently undergoing some reconstruction on their dispatch center. In January, part of the project included installing an exhaust fan in vault.
The construction workers were allowed in the vault, accompanied by a police officer. During the installation, they were able to sneak out with a total of 48 pounds of marijuana over a three day period.
"It started with a small amount. They were able to get out with that small amount, got a little braver," said Chief Rick Singleton.
An audit of the vault alerted police to the missing evidence, which lead to the arrest of Scott Raymond Burgert and Bradley Thomas Jones. Both are charged with theft of property first and trafficking marijuana.
As of Wednesday, they have only found four of the missing 48 pounds of pot.
Florence Police are conducting an internal investigation to find out how this happened.
