not sure if im just getting old.

But I think the lights in my grow room is messing
with my eyes.

im curious.. is the light harmful to your eyes?

I dont mean staring at the bulb, but as in
indirect/direct lighting from being in the grow
room with lights on.

I read that 1K lights can't even be looked at directly or you'll get what welders call "flash burn". But as far as health risks I don't see how a few minutes near one would be harmful. but...if you are suffering eye strain from the lights...a pair of sunglasses might not be a bad idea.

Metal halide and mercury vapor lights apparently can cause eye burns/permanent damge if they are cracked. A couple of months back I saw an article about 4 teachers in Oregon, and there apparently the same thing happened in Canada:

Governor Signs First Ever Ban on Harmful Halide Lights in Schools
OEA member and former Lake Oswego teacher Kellie La Follette was on-hand with her husband to witness Governor Kulongoski signing into law Senate Bill 479, which prohibits the use of R type metal halide or mercury vapor light bulbs in public schools.

La Follette suffered burns, fever and eye damage as a result of being exposed to excessive UV radiation during a 2004 teacher in-service training at Bryant Elementary School in Lake Grove that included approximately 80 educators from around the state. She continues to suffer from constant pain and cannot be out in bright light. The La Follette's have started a website alerting the public to the dangers of R metal halide (www.uvlightburns.com).

R type metal halide bulbs are commonly found in gymnasiums and warehouses and can expose individuals to harmful UV radiation and burns....

As to damage from undamaged halide bulbs, they still produce UV radiation:"UV radiation, whether from natural sunlight or artificial UV rays, can damage the eye's surface tissues as well as the cornea and lens. UV radiation can burn the front surface of the eye, much like a sunburn on the skin. ...it may be painful and may create symptoms including red eyes, a foreign body sensation or gritty feeling in the eyes, extreme sensitivity to light and excessive tearing." Yea me too.. with grow room being vented.
I can sit, blaze and watch the babies, for a while.
Until my wife starts whining..
:giggle:

Typical end of the day at my house:
Husband: "I'm not gonna look at them, bcuz they look the same as they did yesterday."

Me: "Seriously, they grew 4 inches in 24 hours and the buds doubled!"

Husband: "Get the hell outta there & come watch Keith Olberman and cook me something to eat."
