Yo, hey there dba,
Sure thing friend. Should you decide to use soil and obviously a container then you will want to have at the minimum a three gallon container for each lady. Your potting soil should be good stuff like foxfarms, but even potting soil from the store can have potential problems for you. You do not want a soil that has already had ferts and other nutes added to it ahead of time, like the one's that say they have a built in 3 month supply of ferts, shine that noise.
A good rich potting soil will start you out real good, but remember that you want something more than mud when you water. Blend into or at least make sure that your soil has really good airation.
Vermiculite blended in will give you the airation, also a bit of coarse sand will do wonders too.
Here is my ratio that does real good;
1/2 potting soil or top soil.
1/8 coarse sand
1/4 vermiculite
1/8 hardwood mulch, or whatever comes out of my compost pile.
A couple of pieces of broken pottery in the bottom of your container will also help ensure that you don't get some root rot going.
Don't panic if you suddenly see some tiny gnats buzzing around as they are easy to get rid of, and sad to say they are commonly found with potting soils, (they like the decomposting manure when it is moist). Course you can read up on all of this here.
Lighting is critical bro, without adaquete light your babies just won't get it going.
Hope this will be of some help to you, I'm betting that your gonna do just fine, but with a kindly attitude you will secure help from a good many of these wonderful folks here, and soon enough you will be passing your knowlege on to others too.
Good Luck and again welcome, let's keep hearing from you ok ?
smoke in peace
