what to do four the best?

hi i hope somebody will help,
a friend of mine has just give me a cutting which is allready in flower ,his light system fell ontop of it cutting the top of ,which is what i got
my problem is do i put it in water till roots start to show then put it back into veg or directly pot it with root hormone and hope for the best
all advise welcome as it is in water at the minute but i dont want to kill it if it can be saved or will it be to stressed

Clones in flower are harder to root.
You can put it back under 24 hrs lights on or 18 on and keep it in veg and root it, but takes longer.
several methods work.
1. cup of water....takes the longest but works well
2. soil/peat pellet/rockwool cloning with rooting hormone like olivias/rootone/takeroot ect.
3. aero or bubble cloner (DIY one in the DIY section )

gonna stick with the water method used it before but not when they were flowering so wish me luck and hopefully i will be able to start a grow journal
