What is a HID Pulse Start light?

Will some one please explain to me what a PULSE START HID LIGHT is and why are they used versus the normal MH or HPS lights/ballasts?

Yo Ho DonJones,

Sounds like a tad of confusion to me. I know that the lights are pulsed, and so are the ballasts.

Pulse Start Ballast provide better performance compared to standard Metal Halide Ballast. Pulse Start Ballast offers a higher efficiency, better color, faster warm up, and longer life. All Pulse Start Ballasts must be used with a Pulse Start Lamp.

So a pulse start MH ballast will only work with a Pulse start MH and not with a pulse start HPS, and of course it works the same starting with the pulse start hps ballast will only work with the pulse start hps bulb, correct?
