My Hot outdoor grow seems to be going ok but I have a question

All 7 seedlings are growing very tall and fast, one plant has its 1st set of 5 finger leaves starting to appear after one week since germinating.

the stem cant support the weight of the leaves and has now been supported by 2 dry spagetti sticks.. LOL.

The out door temp is 85f in the shade and the seedlings recieve 8 hours or so of direct sunlight from the morning onwards. It is also breezy so they get gently blown around.

How do I get theses stems to thicken up?
Is it ok to support the plant using more potting soil or will that rot the stem?
What causes this?

Or do I need to be a bit more patient?

Thanks in advance to all out there,
Nico

mounding the soil up around them is the same as transplanting one up to the first set of leafs :) no harm done

Sounds to me like you are doing everything right so I dont know what your problem is. When you have this problem it usually means they arent getting enough light but it sounds like they are getting plenty of light. How many hours of indirect sun are they getting? The breeze always makes a stronger stock. Like HGB said, you can put the soil all the way up to the first set of leaves and that should help a lot. Around three weeks of age you can start giving them nutrients wich will help a lot.

Like a beginner im giving them as much light as possible by moving them. but i'll get bored of that soon.

As far as shade goes hmmm. the newer seedlings get 6 hours or so of morning sun then the shade is natural from late afternoon to over night.

The larger ones I'm having probs with get all day sun near enough,
perhaps too much direct light or heat and maybe over watering but ive tried to be careful withe the water?

plenty of breeze...

trouble is poss PH i used well water and I measured it tonight and its a bit on the 5.5-6-5 mark using a pool thing. not acurate i know, i shall invest in a meter i think. The tap water here is about 6.5 -7.5 so maybe i'll start using that instead
.
Plus the Universal soil im using has weak ferts and is 5.5-6.0 ph so it could be nute burn as Hicks said in my hot outdoor grow journal. http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14543

So I flushed the bigger seedlings with tap water left for 24 hours. and will leave watering alone for 2 or 3 days.
What do you think?

I'm going away for the weekend to an african blues concert so they wont get pestered,, LOL

I hope they are not like cats.. no food or pampering and they rush off to another window sill!!!

thanks all

Nico
