whats up peeps i just got a 4ft 6tube T5s for next grow and read a few different things about how many lumans i need per plant, i was wondering how many decent sized plants i could grow

im not sure ,,how many plants ,,how big is your grow room as the lumens work on how big your room is,, a minium of 5000 lumens per sq ft would be the way to go ,,

Plants can range from very small to very large. It is impossible to tell anyone how many plants they can grow with a given size light. However, if we know the lumens the bulbs emit, we can give you some advise as to how large an area the light will adequately cover.

I veg with T5s and think that they are great. I have a 400W MH that generally sits idle now.

I agree with UKgirl and THG. It is my belief that when using fluorescent lights that they must cover the entire grow area. That is to say, they need to be directly above the plants. Unlike HIDs that radiate light out, away from the source. You can have one 11 " HID (Plus recflector) centered in a closet that will cover a 12 sq. ft. Whereas, to do the same thing with fluorescent bulbs you need to have several spread out over the entire area.

I did a fluorescent grow with 4 4', 40 watt, cool white bulbs. I had 2 shop fixtures side by side, with 2 bulbs in each. So, I had 4 bulbs side by side, and grew 3 big, healthy plants. I had the plants single file, with the 4 lights directly above. Also, I kept them about 2" above the tops of the plants. I probably could have put them at 1"

That's another thing: Position the lights as close as possible, without burning the plants.

I have a 4ft 6tube T5 setup 6500K tubes, and it has a little over 29,000 lumens. I am growing 3 plants, and they love it.

well right now im using a homemade need for a change grow box and plan on moving operations to my closet which is a 3 by 5 foot space that i plan on using. 6500 lumen count for veging i think it comes out to.

3 by 5 foot space that i plan on using
That is 15 sf x 5,000 lumens = way more then what you are using. You will need way more Lumens.

15 sq ft x 5000 lumens = 75,000 lumens You will need about 12 times more lumens for a space 3 x 5

6500 lumens is good for a space 2' x 1' for vegging and slightly more than 1' x 1' for flowering.
