Can I start some seeds out with a 150w heat lamp? I dont have the funds for the MH lights yet. If so, how long before they need the right lights?

Any seeds will sprout with light and heat. However within a few days the plants will need something more than a heat lamp. While a HID lamp is ideal, T5 flourescents work amazingly well. They will cost about $100 for a 4 tube 2ft set up.

Yo Ho Ho N,

Hey and welcome Greenie,
I think that you are in a good position while your saving your dollars, to start studying and doing some serious reading here about different setups.

There are certain basic needs that you will want to have in place before you risk throwing good beans away. My suggestion right now is to cool your jets and consider what your goals are as far as,

1. Where you plan to do your growing.
2. container size for the roots.
3. Is this a grow box, or a closet.
4. will you need to set up an small heater when you flip your light schedule.
5. Lighting for both veg and flowering.
6. moisture tester
7. Ph tester
8. odor eliminator

* Keeping in mind of coarse that our motto is, "Tell No One". Safety is a key factor.

We can help you with all of these questions, and more, so settle in, relax, grab a comfy chair, something to refresh yourself with, perhaps a nibbly, or two, and get ready to start reading, and then you will be reading some more, but it is a good, and smart thing to formulate your plans first.

In this way you will be learning some very important stuff that will help you to grow the dank instead of the swag. You know what I mean ?, and then you will be saving coin at the same time. My philosophy is to get it right the first time, and then you will be happy. In the

meantime chill,

welcome to the site...I would rather use cfl bulbs rather than a heat lamp...My fear would be it would cook the liitle babies

take care and be safe:bolt::bong:

:yeahthat:

A real heat lamp is not a good light even for seedlings. However, what kind of "heat lamp" is it? That has gotten to be kind of a generic term for any light that puts out high heat....

I'm picturing a reptiles terrarium heat lamp. Probably one of those red ones. The light they give off I can't imagine would be sufficient for sustainable growth.

Welcome Greenie. KK has it right. Read first so your not wasting money. Get your plan and run with it. Lighting is the first thing you should read about. If you don't have the proper lighting, you'll just be wasting your money. Stay safe. :)

Thanks everybody, its funny you say read up on it because thats what I have been reading you guys for the last 2 months. I have a plan, I know what its going to cost, I am well prepared except for the funds. Which is why I ask about my "heat lamp" for an iguana or snake(but not red) because I will be ready in bout two weeks, but im not going to rush it. I have been patient, it will be worth it and NO One knows which is a good feeling.

Welcome! :)

Heat lamps probably won't work; some CFLs should do the trick though.
