Greetings folks! First time posting here, But lets get started shall we?
My partner in crime and i are currently growing 2 plants of unknown origin. were using the usual tub of water, net pots and bubble stones. Its our first time and they seem to be getting along quite nicely. Tho there was a problem when we transferred to a larger tank and ended up with slimy roots, but we took care of it. But back to the point. We have them sitting in a potting soil. We plan on building the beautiful aeroponic chamber as we recently seen in an issue of high times. But i was wondering what our best bet as a growing medium would be. He suggested a soil/ vermiculite mixture. But i personally dont like the sound of soil in there. I feel like it will crumble out and clog up the pumps. I know its a painfully long post for such a simple question. So, how do y'all feel about this? i can answer any questions you have to help you help me. Thanks alot guys! we'll also have pictures up soon of our current room setup and tank.

i feel the same thing like you, i think it will get soil residues in all your system and clog aero misters along with bacteria in your res. IMO go with hydro medium, growrocks in net pots are good or rockwool or floral foam(oasis). note that grorock rw or oasis also give some fine residues and nutes buildup salts so get a strong pump to keep pressure up in your misters to avoid that, good luck :)

No, you cannot use soil and vermiculite in an aerop[onic system. I would like to encourage you to do a lot more research before you jump into this aero thing--they are a lot harder to get right than a DWC. And (no offense), but if either one of you believed that you can use soil as a hydro medium, you have a lot to learn about hydro...

It is generally not a good idea to have a partner in this kind of endeavour. And before you tell me that you trust this guy with your life, most people will sell their grandmothers out to keep out of jail...

I have plans for a organic hydro hybrid and it should work but has never been tested. There is no reason you couldn't use soil as a medium in hydro so long as you can stop it from leaching into your rez, which will require much more than a net pot. I would suggest a DWC bucket if you really want to do hydro and its your first go. And go get some hydroton or some other inert grow media.

Is not areoponics the system that sprays the roots with a fine mist. How can one do this if using soil? I see much research in the future.:)
