I am new to growing and not sure what to do. I have 2 clones growing in a closet. They have been in the 5 gal pails for almost a month. One plant is 9in and the other 4in. I am using 4 40 watt 4 foot florecent tubes. Some of the leaves in the miidle of the plants are turning yellow but the rest seem to be pretty green. I am feeding it miricale grow once a week ( only a quarter of what is recommend) and watering inbetween. I am worried because they have only grown a few inches in a month. Any help would be great.

Hello Mags :)

Your lights are not strong enough also you say your feeding them once AND watering them once a week, this is too much, you only water or feed them when the soil dries out, your roots are not getting a chance to breathe, both of these things add to slow growth :)

but the soil is dry about 2cm deep. how often should i water?

Check every time. Always around 6.5. Can't figure out why the leaves are turning yellow.

Your roots are not 2cm down, the roots are at the bottom of the pot, so you test the top of the pot and it seems dry, that may well be true, but (do not do this) imagine you stick your finger right to the bottom of the pot and it will still be wet, you need to learn to read your plant, when the leaves start drooping it means your plant is thirsty, the yellowing could be caused by over watering and over feeding, water twice to 1 feed, water water feed, water water feed... 1/4 strength feed (what NPK is your feed?)

over watering can be a pain in the neck. i've found that soil doesn't flow good them i tend to get water at the bottom of the pots when the top few inches are super dry. took me a while to figure that one out. good luck and i hope you get it worked out..

you got primo help here with HIE.

The NPK is15-30-15. Also I don't think the roots have reached the bottom of my 5 gal pails. They are only a few inches tall. I didn't think the roots grew that fast. Also I'm on a 20 on 4 off with the lights. Is this ok?

Hey mags

The MG youre using has a NPK of 15-30-15? There is your first problem right there. During the vegetative stage, the plants need more Nitrogen. Find a plant food that has a scale more like 6-4-4. This will give them more of a stronger boost.

Also, try and invest in some better lighting. It will pay off, I promise. Of course metal halide lamps are better for vegging because of the blue spectrum in the bulb... and high powered sodium lamps are better for flowering because of the orange red spectrum. So try and get a hps/mh conversion lamp that will do both.

Good luck

Some of the leaves are curling up on the ends. Any suggestions?

Curling up on the ends means overnuting most likely. Hopefully the damage wont be too bad. Perhaps try to flush the soil. Good luck
