sex-linked traits?

Hi guys
I'm wondering, err, hypothetically :aok: about a little genetics project involving NLxHaze, BC Mango, E. Girl, and AK-47. Of course the idea would be to combine the genetics and try and idealize them for my particular setup.

Anyway, I'm wondering what the deal is with sex-linked traits in the plants. I realize the many of the traits are not expressed in a male, but it would still carry that trait (which would be expressed in his daughter).

That said, anyone ever mess around with which to use for a mom and dad? Ie, would it matter if you did NLxH (mother) X Mango (Father) vs NLxH (father) X Mango (mother)? Or perhaps to "wash out" the problem of sex-linked traits, to make both combinations, and mix those offspring to get equal combinations of all of them.

Also, I was wondering about the finer points of combining and stablizing four strains. I thought to make 2 semi-stable plants (Probably the NL and Mango, then E. Girl and AK-47) THEN combining those two to get one strain.

Forgive my ignorance on the matter. I actually trained as a chemist and barely passed genetics with a C in college (about 10 years ago).

All I really remember is how quickly genetics turns into a mind-bending excersise.

I believe it would take you many generations to actually get a stable line of genetics combining all of those strains together. I know next to nothing about it so I really don't want to say much. Keep us posted on your progress though. Very interesting stuff. Take care and be safe.

I know it's a real difficult process, but I have had a lot of success growing/breeding heirloom veggies in this way.

I think I can get off a little easier because I'm not going after the same thing a commercial guy would. I can live with a little variation in yield, height, etc. Not so with a big cash cropper.

I think that's going to be the fun part--having the time to work with each of the girls on an individual basis.

But I'm with you--it would take some time to get it smoothed out. I wonder how many gens it would take?

Anyone do a project like this?

Oh, I forgot, I had been kicking around the idea of getting an "indoor mix" from one of the banks, with the idea of growing and mixing all of them. Kind of a shotgun approach I know--but it would stand to reason if each was optimized for THC and CBD production, then the real variables would be yield, height, growth rate, aroma....

I have no real idea what would happen--but I think it would be fun to find out. Or might I say, the scientific process of testing would be a lot of fun.

I'm sure there are members with some experience in this field. I wish I had the time, space, and resources to mess around in this particular area but the bills have to be paid...anyways, I will have my fingers crossed for you. I'm not really sure how long it would take or if it would even be a stable strain to keep around. I guess you would just have to play around and see what happens but it's definitely a long-term project. I hope someone else responds with more knowledge on the subject. Take care and be safe.

I think about every long term 'serious' grower, has given it a shot. It can be a lot of fun, or it can be a frustrating, hairpulling, nightmare, adventure.. IMO.
The one thing that "I" would stress, is advice from DJ Short.. "Choose only the best" for your cross's. I think that I read, where he said it took him 15 years to develop the "Blue Berry".
There are some pretty good articles in the "Breeding" section on the
here..http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9396
I recommend anything by Dj Short. ;)
good luck and have FUN
