My bud looked great all the way through flowering. However after drying, I trimmed it and with the exception of the colars or the top buds all of the buds are severely lacking in density. Some are almost stringy. We are using a few 1000 w hps lights. ALso G-13 Strains along with Northern Lights and AK-47...Any help you could offer on what I may be doing wrong would be great.

sounds like one heck of a cross :hubba: but to be of any help were going to need more about the grow. Heres a [thread=16462]link[/thread] that will help you get some better info on the grow so we can better help you. Oh and :welcome: to the forum as i see that this is your first post :48:heres another good [thread=9396]link[/thread] to help along the way. and again :welcome: to MP :bong:

1st off thanks for the welcome and the advice...I saw those links before I signed up and scoured the internet for 3 hours and couldnt find anything useful...Maybe I didnt look in the right spots....

As for the grow...it was pretty standard...We went to a seedbank so we obviously started from seed not clones...Started with 18-6...dropped to 12-12...took some clones for down the road;) ....used the Tigerbloom..our ph stayed in the 6s the whole time....Our ph tester did break but we got a new one and the ph had stayed the same...After researching we found out that it was in 18-6 a little too long...those *******s got tall.....Also we had one 1000 watt light for about 15 plants and a 400 watt light in there too. We took the 400 watt light out and replaced it with a second 1000 watt light. Did the change in light amounts hurt them??? I have friends who are growing and they are stumped...We all agreed that things looked great the whole time...Then at the end the buds were just not compact at all.

Hard to realy tell with out some pics to see what they look like. and everything does sound good dont see much of a problem with the set up. I know that bud size and density will vary from strain to strain some will be big compact and tight nuggz of a bud and others are light airy and small. have you looked at the trichromes yet to see how far off of a harvest you are what kind of distance was the lights off of the plant tops too this can have allot to do with loose buds if the plant was streaching for light.

What are trichomes? I'm kinda new to this and I apologize if this is a stupid question...Also I was under the impression that AK was a strain that was known for large compact/tight buds....So confused...

trichomes are the little glands that are on the buds and the leaves. they will start out clear and the closer it gets to being ready they will start to turn cloudy and kind of an orangeish brown. go to Radio Shack and buy a strong magnifying glass, 15x-30x, and then you can see when they are ready.
