panning for gold

good morning fine people,,,,,hey a friend of mine asked me if I would like to go to Georgia to pan for gold ,,,being raised in the city panning for gold sounds a little crazy ,,,my buddy says he's gone twice ,,1st time he found nothing,,the second time over the course of two days he made over 700$....being out in the country with nature is great but panning for gold I don't know ,,has anyone done this or no anyone how has ,,,,I have seen the movie deliverance so going out in the woods for a few days freaks me out ,,,,thanks in advance for any replies ,,,,ssbw

not been panning (seriously anyway) but love camping. bummed i've not been this season

only thing i say; make sure your not intruding on anyones favorite spot.. dunno how backwoods the backwood folk are there

Zig, I've spent some time up in rabun county north ga fishing. It's very beautiful land, I find myself doing more relaxing and looking than I do fishing most times.
I would go, but I would only expect to bring back a good time and memories. A little gold would be an added bonus.

I agree with yarddog. To me panning gold is more about getting outdoors and enjoying it with friends. Finding gold is a bonus.

I love panning for placer gold... but this one is a little too big to fit in my gold pan!

Oh, don't be afraid of going out into the woods. I lived he mountains for many years and just loved it. And I also agree with yarddog--do it to get out into nature and have a good time. If you find something, that is wonderful, if not, you have your good times and memories. I feel the same way about fishing.

I have a good friend who likes to pan for gold. I have never found anything when I've gone with him, but we always have a great time.

Did Ziggy get some gold ?-- The outdoors is fine but U got to know some stuff !-- Like what U gonna do if one them black bears gets after U ? -- U need to know the ways of the woods to survive !--If a bear gets after U --Just run and get behind a tree !-- When he comes charging in -- reach in your pants and get a fist full of sh** and throw it in his face !-- Don't worry about whether the sh** will be there !---Trust me if a bear is after U --It'll be there !

I forgot the other tried and true way to get away from critters in the wild that think U look tasty !-- If U with a guy and a bear gets after U --- Just kick your friend square in the test tickles and run like the wind !

gonna go,,,,the last week of sept...anyone know if it gets cold up in dalonagin GA(think I spelled that wrong))will leave my son with my girl friend for 4 days ,,,that will be hard as he has never be away from me for that long,,,,hope I find at least 1 piece for him,,,hey keef hope your joking about the bears(as I don't run to fast)but I can climb a tree ,,,,,my buddy says he carries a s&w 500 not to worry ,,,,ssbw

Oh zigggy, that sounds like a fun time. I think that Keef was joshing about the bears. In all the time I lived in the mountains and how much bear and cat scat I saw, I never saw a bear or big cat while out hiking, camping or fishing. They don't really much want to run. into us either.

I'm back from GA,,,,it was fun,,,,after about three hours of hard work I found two grams of gold(about 80 bucks)I did find some really nice stones ,,,aquamarine ,ruby's,shaphire.emralds ,,,had more fun looking for the stones than I did gold ,,not as much hard work,,they where even nice enough to cut one of my stones for my son,,(an aquamarine),after it was cut and polished it looked great (almost as blue as my sons eyes)most of the stone are not good enough to cut,,,some yes most no,,,had are great time tho ,,was a little scared at night ,never slept outdoors,,,,anyway got home yesterday today I have to plan for the hurricane ,,,pray for for us down here in florida,,,,by the way I broke my wrist firing my buddys s&w 500,,dad always said stay away from guns
