Not sure how to treat

Hey MP finally posting something after lurking for a while.

first of all, loads of awesome information here, LOVE IT :icon_smile:

I got a little situation i'd like to get some input about.

First grow, autos.

50/50 coco perlite
5-6.5cm tall
week ~ old
NL/Bigbud from originalsensible
germinated with the paper towel method

atm: 3 CFLs in total.
the big one is a 120W - cool write
The two others are 45W each - warm white
6" fan @ low speed
temp ....= 20-25C
Humidity = 65-75

haven't fed em yet, just rain water that i collected, obvo slightly acidic.


Is that just nut deficiency?

Just looks like new growth to me, but I do not grow in coco.

Welcome to the site Everything looks fine keep doing what you are doing and in another week - 2 weeks start light feedings , seedlings always have deformed look till it starts to take off, Also next time i would use a smaller pot to kick them off like 1' trays then trans plant into 3 - 4 " as seedlings grow, Remember coco hold onto its salts so flushing is needed weekly , cause of the high potassium content in coco. so your going to need Cal mag.
Epsom salt can be used as a quick fix???but i suggest purchasing some real cal mag

Thank you guys was just worried that the small leafs were getting a bit curly and more yellow'ish at such an early stage - will update :icon_smile:

Plants have enough food stored in the seed that it will take the plants through the first couple of weeks. You can kill a seedling quite easily by feeding it nutes to early.

I agree with Dr. Fever re the pot sizes. I always start out with smaller containers and transplant when the plants outgrow the pots. I just popped some seeds that started out in Rapid Rooters. When roots are coming out of the rooters nicely, I transplanted to party cups. After that they will go into 1/2 gal pots (for the micro grow we have going on). It is easier to water the proper amount and it also saves on nutrients.

Yeah I agree with the above suggestions. They look fine. Its easy to become a "nervous mother" and start micro-managing the seedlings when starting out, but you have to resist the urge to "help them along". Those little round leaves(seed leaves, cotyledons) are the main food source for them for the first couple weeks, so you will see them yellow off and die. Once those "seed leaves" start to yellow off, that is when I start feeding, typically about 2 weeks but that can vary depending on the vigor of the plants.

As you are growing in coco, the plants will be depending on you to do all of the feeding, and as DF said, coco is tricky about holding on to nutrients. I personally don't flush mine every week. That will depend greatly on the type of nutes you are planning to use and strongly you use them. I use AN Jungle Juice 3part, and I only flush my medium once throughout the grow and that is at the 3rd week of flowering. You will most likely find that you will need to do somewhat differently than me as each grow is unique and will have different needs.

The one very important thing for growing in coco is the use of calmag. I use it from start to finish and my plants have very little yellowing off even to harvest at 9-10weeks. I use about 15ml per 18liters of water from the start(however, this is done in hydro) then I back down to 10ml per 18liters of water when I switch to flowering at 5-6weeks of veg, then back it down to 5ml at 4weeks of flower, then cut off at 7weeks of flower. This is for standard photo-period plants grown in hydro, as you are growing autos, your regamin will be different.

My advice would be to feed lightly when starting(around the end of the second week) and watch the growth of the plants. As they show more vigorous growth, you should ramp up the level of nutrients to match their growth. If you don't have a TDS and PH meters then get them asap as they are critical to successful soilless growing.

(and greatly increase the lighting. I would use HID lighting at 4000 lumens per square foot of growing space, then increase to 6000 lumens when they start flowering) If you can't afford this level of lighting then raise it as much as you can afford as you will be paid back at the end for the amount of light that you give them.

Don't know how big your space is, but like Hushpuppy mentioned, you are going to want to get some more light in there soon. While 3000 lumens per sq ft for vegging and 5000 for flowering is adequate, more light is better if you can control the heat.

Im good on the lights i will add more when the time comes.

I got a simple lumen sensor and i easily get more than 3000 at the moment
