My Very First Grow!!!

Hi everyone, i've been reading and learning a lot on here and now im givin' it a go on my own. I germinated three bag seeds from some stuff that i liked. Right now my babies have been in soil for about 10-12 days. My setup is as follows (its a closet grow):

3 ind. cups approx. 4" deep
1 two foot, double bulb fluoro hung approx. 1-2" above the tops
1 fan

Soil: I looked and looked and finding organic potting soil was really tuff so I settled on MG Moisture Control Formula (it has increased perlite and peat moss). I know MG is supposed to be bad, but it was the best I could do...im not adding any nutes so not to overdue it, will this be ok?

Light: I know my light isn't great, but it seems to be doin' ok for veg. I plan to add a couple cfl's for flowering. What are some recommendations here?

I am nearing the point where im gonna have to transplant. Im thinkin' about goin' to 10" pots. I have a height restriction because i am growing on the top shelf of my closet. My goal is to have three short (12" or so) plants that are bushy and full. I am considering LST but am not sure...any input on what i can do to get the most yeild i can out of three 12" plants would be awesome. Thanks.

use the 150w cfl's for flowering. and i would use LST on your plants also.
Have you ever heard about using lst, and making the plant go around in a ring??
U can have a full sized plant, but it is in a bunch of rings, around the edge of your container. and light shoots down the center of the rings. its good if your limited on height.

the floro-tubes you got right now will work good, if you can, go to a walmart in the lighting isle, the 24'' tubes specifically for plants in the green box, their fat, is what i'd recommend for vegging. the 150w hps would work good for only 3 ladies, and its cheap. i'd recommend getting some mylar also. just my opinion.
the lst would work good for you also, turns your sides into tops...i got one named "the freak"....about 15 bud points. how long ya going to veg for?

I have checked into the LST and it definately seems like what i should do but I dont know when i should start it.

When do I start the LST???

LST can be done,from the 4th-5th node,all the way up to harvest.

Last night I decided to go with a grow box and do the 12/12 starting immediately. I also transfered 2 of the 3 to 8" pots.

My box is 24" x 16" x 16"
Three 8" pots, 3 starter cups...gonna have staggered harvests
I also added 2 100W equivalent 6500k cfl's to my 24" 2 bulb fluoro
I painted the inside of the box with white spray paint

Sounds like you are off to a great start bro but I'am not sure if useing spray paint was a good idea!

That is one 24" 2bulb fluoro, and two 26 watt CFL's 6500k

??? Is 6500k good to flower with???

I have em setup on a timer now. Last night was there first "night."
I cant wait to see how they react.

You should use the 2700k bulbs to flower with, IMO. 6500k is more for veging.

hey man nice set up , i just started acouple weeks ago to i got a journal post under yours , looks like were at the same progress right now my plant almost looks identical to yours. anywho keep up the good work i think i will do flat white spray paint as well much easier then brushing it on and no brush lines that make the wall less reflective. im using aluminum foil dull side up right now , which so far works fine.

Yes definatly get some 2700k in there for flowering, but utter then that very primo for a first grow i must say.

heres the progress of my current grow if you like to compare maybe we can give each other pointlers along the way! i would like to know if 2700k and 6500k one of each is worth it as well..

Yeah 1 of each for now is a good thing. I feel that you will need more os the 2700k when you get closer to finishing. A good mix of the two spectrums is good all throughout the grow, just remember when flowering you will need more 2700k than the 6500k.
