How hot is VERY hot? Make sure the electrical cords around it aren't getting hot enough to melt.
As for different lights.. you can't change to a different bulb, unless you bought the special type of ballast that allows MH AND HPS bulbs. You can't even change to a different wattage, so you're stuck at 400 watts. To deal with the heat, most people install an exhaust fan to their room/box.

If it's a seperate ballast from the fixture, definitely put the ballast outside the grow space.

We were only discussing the space blankets possibly being the same thing as what was being offered on another site with a hyped up name. The more important thing we were talking about in that thread was Poly Shield. It's a material that blocks infrared signatures. You line the inside of the grow room with that. Either way, with or without, you still need to ventilate properly. Get some intake and exhaust fans. Mount the exhaust at the top of the room and the intake at the bottom.
