Hi folks :)

Well hear goes....

I am looking for any advice and help any friends may think I would benefit from.....

I have just bought all my kit and am about to start my first grow..

Kit List
a) Easy 2-Grow Pot System (with added 2 pots) Is gravity fed (with 1 x aquavalve for each 2 pot tray) from 47ltr tank..Pots each are 8.5 ltr volume.
b) Gold growing medium (a mix of perlite and fine grade vermiculite).
c) Hydroponicum general purpose liquid feed.
d) Powerplant MH superveg 600w for vegetative.
e) Sylvania GroLux 600w for flowering.
f) Root Riot 2" Rockwool propagation/germination cubes
g) 9" Oscillating Fan
h) Grow room is bedroom cupboard approx 4 x 3 x 6ft (painted completely with matt white emulsion)
i) I will be buying 100mm extraction system with carbon filter in the very near future.
j) Ph testing kit.
k) Pack of 10 White Widow feminised seeds (Sensi Seed).

OK!.....

So far i have placed 4 rockwool cubes (pre-soaked) on a plate and cut 1/4" holes in which I have placed a seed in each and then used a corner off each cube to cover top of hole....i have then covered plate with a plastic bowl and wrapped in a towel to shut out light (this was done last night approx 16.00 GMT)...I had placed on livingroom floor with a small spotlight close to provide small amount of heat, about 5 minutes ago I moved to above my gas fire with fire set on low (I'm guessing this would be roughly equivalent to a heat-mat as is warm to the touch but no more....Firstly when do I know if seeds have germinated? Once I am sure they have my second important question is how much growing medium do I place in 8.5ltr pots and where do I place the rockwool cubes?....ie at bottom of pot and cover with grow med or fill with grow med and place cubes just below surface? I have many more questions as this is my first grow (gotta say I'm excited!) but will take it one step at a time.....

All and any advice at this point would be greatly appreciated as I really want to succeed with this as I'm sick of paying extortionate prices from rip-off merchants for green when I think I could do better myself (and save a small fortune!).

Many thanks in advance!!! :guitar:

p.s. my tap water Ph is 6.2 so I think this should be fine when mixing with feed when transfering seedlings to hydro system?

First welcome to MP, you may want to post this question in either the indoor growing section, or hydro section, you will probably get more hits in those. I never heard of your nutrients, but that doesn't mean anything, I take it you are from somewhere other than the U.S. by the names of your products.

Here is my oppinion on your question, but be informed that I am a soil grower, so you will want to get the advice from people that do hydro. The only thing I can really advize you on is that you will know when your seeds germinate, because they will poke up out of your rockwool. Here is where you need others oppinions though as I have never used rockwool, I would assume you can leave your seedling in the rockwool until roots start to break through the sides (make sure roots don't get light to them) at which time you would want to transplant to your medium, and you don't want to put it at the bottom of your pot, but towards the top, so that the medium covers most of the stem of your seedling, but not enough to cover leaves. You will want to keep the humidity dome over the rockwool until the seedlings appear then you will want to remove it. make sure not to let your rockwool dry out, but don't drown it either.

You may want to consider posting a grow journal, alot of folks find it helpful if they start one. Then you can post pics as you go and the old veteran growers here can look at your plants and give you tips along the way. Just a thought. Good Luck to you!

Hello Skmaduev :)

First thing first.

One of the most important things is PH, you need a digital PH reader, nothing else is accurate enough.

£15 from Ebay.

Is this your system? (Change the XX at the start to TT then paste it into your browser (No live external links allowed on the forum))

You need specialist plant food for MJ, general feed is no good.

Personally I use Bio Bizz, easy to get hold of in the UK ;)

This is where I get mine from, you may be able to get it from a vendor closer to you.

hXXp://www.growell.co.uk/g/158/Bio-Bizz-Nutrients

Your Sqft area is 12, 5,000 lumens per foot needed, your bulbs gives 90,000 lumens approx so that is plenty.

You will not need a carbon filter until the plants are in flower, so that is about 2 months away.

You chose WW as a first venture!

Tough strain to start with, exact PH is needed and they are very nutrient (Food) sensitive.

Welcome to the forum :)

You will find lots of help here, this is a pretty chilled forum with no swearing or arguing.

When the seeds have germinated you will see it growing out of the rockwool, you fill your pots with medium then dig a small hole and put the rockwool plug into the soil so both surfaces are level.

You didn't need to buy all this stuff, just a few pots, a light, PH reader and correct plant food.

But as you now have it all, you may as well use it :p

As your grow progresses you will need to start a grow journal so we all can see and help with advice when needed.

(Inhouse links are fine to leave the http as it is)

Here is a read for you, someone in similar shoes.

You will have many question as your grow advances, do not be afraid to ask them, we are all here to help.

:peace:

Thanks for both of your replies guys and a very warm welcome I might add :)

I realised as soon as I posted that seeds are Super Skunk and NOT WW! (lol! a bit trigger happy on the 'ol keyboard their methinks). Thanks for the sound advice, your right LF i'm from Scotland and HIE I'll defo invest in a Ph meter m8 and am checking out your pointer for Bio Bizz as we speak, I dont plan on introducing any feed until between week 3-4 so gives me ample time to get items you mentioned.

Also great advice on the positioning of the rockwool in the pots when transplanting, Ill repost my initial post in the hydro and indoor sections LF (thanks) and I'll make a start on my grow journal later today HIE.

Got to say, solid comments and advice from you both and both a credit to the site guys, keep up the good work and hope to speak to you both on a regular basis, again many and appreciative thanks!
