Marijuana-infused, non-alcoholic beer hits the shelves in Las Vegas
by Max Darrow Friday, August 31st 2018
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The marijuana industry in Las Vegas is growing. Pot sales generated nearly $70 million in tax revenue during its first year of legal, recreational sales.
“Obviously, the industry is doing a lot better than everyone anticipated,” Director of Product Development at Cannabinier Kevin Love said.
Love and his company have created a new product that is now on the shelves at one marijuana dispensary in Las Vegas, and soon to be found in many more. It’s called “Two Roots,” and it’s a marijuana-infused, alcohol-free beer.
“We’re brewing beer under the traditional format, then we’re removing the alcohol from it,” Love said. “That bi-product is being transported to a Nevada Licensed cannabis facility. We’re infusing it then with a water-soluble THC. We’re canning it and we’re sending it out to distribution to dispensaries here locally.”
“I like it so much better,” Kristian Trujillo said. “You don’t get that nasty feeling after you stop drinking, you know the drowsiness. You just feel good, uplifted.”
Love thinks this product will be a big step forward for the industry and will help continue to drive sales here in Las Vegas.
“It actually acts very similar to alcohol. So, you have a rapid onset, five to seven minutes, and a quick dissipation – about a 90-minute dissipation,” Love said. “For cannabis in general, the industry, this product is really going to start driving normalcy in consumption habits.”
While there are currently plenty of different marijuana and cannabis products on the shelves at dispensaries, Love thinks this offers people a more mellow option than some of the other products out there. He also believes it’s a good alternative to actual, alcoholic beer.
“You will get the effects of cannabis,” he said. “But it’s not going to be an overwhelming experience of cannabis consumption.”
