Feral strains usually consist of male plants with an XX set, that first produce profuse male flowers and then, when the male flowers are producing tons of pollen, female flowers appear in the form of foxtails and are pollinated. Selfing is a highly effective reproductive technique in feral plants.
A couple of years ago I took one of these feral strains known for its potency and bred it to an Aurora indica, then back-bred it. The seeds that the back-breeding produced were all female, confirming that the hermaphrodite male-characteristic parent was actually XX and not XY.
