I am starting my outside grow inside under 6700k CFLs. Would rather not put a hole in my nice new ceiling to hang the lamp. Thought about the old type ironing caddys but can't find one. Does anyone have any great ideas? Would pvc be strong enough for a frame? The bulb and reflector weigh about 6 pounds.

Yes, it will. PVC comes in 2 different wall thicknesses. Get the one with the thicker walls. I would use 3/4" PVC, although 1/2" would actually be strong enough for 6 lbs. The difference in the price between 1/2" and 3/4" in minimal and 3/4" would give you the option of a heavier light in the future should you decide to go with one. One of the members here (City) made a light holder from PVC.

schedule 40 pvc is the light stuff.
look for schedule 80. it's the heavy duty grey electrical conduit.

Not necessarily. You can get a thick walled (1/8") Schedule 40 plumbing PVC. Although you can get Schedule 80 plumbing pipe, I believe that it would be overkill in this situation. You should be able to get everything you need to build a light holder at a big box store for under $20.00.

Thank you hemp goddess, you are always there when we need a good answer, and clanchattan, it just goes to prove, there's always more than one answer. Thanks for taking the time
