Has anyone harvested there own kelp from the beach and used it on there MJ grow???

Oh Yeh - not for MJ -but for my Giant Pumpkins. I lived on the East coast and would gather Brown Sea Kelp washed up on shore.

I would rinse it thoroughly - mash the hell out of it and spread a layer over my soil. Then I'd cover it with a thin layer and give it the winter to break down. In the spring I would aerate my soil and plant away. My root growth was enhanced incredibly with this method.

I have used soil in the past from my garden for MJ, which had the Sea Kelp in it. I highly recommend it - but the composting process is important to adhere to imo.

Currently I'm doing some organic soil comparisons and the specific batch amended with worm castings and mild compost (that was prepared with Kelp) is absolutely leading the pack so far.

Hay Thanks For Your Input On Using Kelp. It's The Bomb. I Need To Go Out To The Beach And Harvest.
How long dose it take for kelp to break down for usage???

Hey Fum,

I'm guessing the winters back East had allot to do with how it decomposed with the method I described.

With a healthy compost pile, Kelp will "turn" to soil in a few months or less under most conditions.

JMW I'm just a little north of you man. I'm in SW Oregon. Are you close to Garberville/Alderpoint? My son stays around that area.
I was just reading and you need to know this buddy,if you didn't already know. By using foliar spraying (kelp) it is 8 times more effective in taking of nutrient then through the root system. And spray in the morrin'. Yea, I did not know that. That's why I'm working on liquid kelp method. Got any ideas? Kelp is a "Green Blessing". Peace out
