I am getting ready. I am wondering if a 400 watt mh+ hps switchable is sufficient for growing in the closet. Closet is 3' x 5' and 8' tall. Is fox farms soil a good choice for medium? Its the one with worm castings, bat guano and some other stuff. Recomended Nuts?

FoxFarm is pretty much the gardeners choice around here.

Your dimensions seem a little small for a 400 watt set up, however it could fair quite well with some small modifications.

Won't need any nutrients until the 2nd week or so, but read up on nutrients and what you want for veg and flower. A 20-20-20 solution is good to start with.

In seedling stage you won't need any nutrients. Even low grade potting soil has enough nutrients in it to help your sprout for a couple weeks. After that a 20-20-20 mix is good for vegetative growth.

I would like to know what to use, as far as nutes go, for 3rd week to the end of veg?

Nutes for flowering?

o.k. thx

Flowering?

What kind of mods could I apply to the closet to make it a 400 watt gro?

man I'm giving you short cuts!!!!!!!!!!!

anyway.. if you got that switchable HPS/MH that is cool even if hood is same that can flip one bulb in MH.. or flip other bulb in same hood for hPS.. that is nice (no hassle to change the bulb) that is good MH is good for veg.. HPS is good for bloom/flowering.. get it ? for example maybe it's good idea to use cfls/ flours lights for babies until one month.. then put them in the closet where your switchable hood/ballast is and flip on MH for 18/6 and continue it depends how well you do under your belt with these plants until preflower appears.. then its time to flip for 12/12 with HPS and leave dark period alone... for the last 8 weeks.. and flush water for the last 2 week before harvest.. next question?

You just might wanna make it a tad bit smaller to get optimum lumens per square feet. Take a look around the Lights section of the forum and see what you're getting into light out put wise.

the next question is: What is the nute ratio for flowering

what mods can i do to the closet to keep adequate temp

So does a cool tube sound better?

what kind of modifications

Im not worried about power usage

how do i put a disclaimer at the bottom of all of my statements??

oh, and is a box fan air intake and box fan exaust ok?

For Flowering you want a 15-30-15 feed I believe. A lot of people I have sen use Big Bloom or some kinda flowering nutrient.
Someone correct me if I am misinformed here.

When you start nutes for the first time, you wanna do a 1/4 dose just to introduce fo a while then slowly go up. Marijuana doesn't take to nutes the greatest. Some do it at 2 weeks-some do at 4 or later. You want to have a healthy plant established before you worry about nutes.

Woah, slow down and just read man. It's all there.

I was just saying that your 5ft by 3 ft closet is a tad big for one 400 watt light.

As for disclaimer...you mean your signature or whatever. Go into your personal settings..

hmm.. If you're useing Fox farms soil, "I" advise going with the FF nutrients, too. They are organic based, and designed to be used in conjunction with, and compliment their soil. The "numbers"(20-20-20...15-30-15) are from chemical fertilizes (sound like miracle grow) and will not compliment, and in fact probably kills the beneficial organic "goodies" in the FFOF.

What you need to "shoot for" with the light, is 5,000 lumens per sq. ft. Chjeck the lumen output of your hps, now divide that by 15(your sq. ft).. there you have your Lu. P/sq.ft.

You "HAVE" to have circulation. Fresh, cool c02 rich air in.. stale, hot, c02 depleted air out...
