it was 15 hours ago, i went with my friend in my 2002 Mercedes 230 coupe to a movie rental got a DVD then passed by a drive through took sandwiches and as i was leaving, a maniac driver came straight to my side door at high speed with a BIG Land Rover 4x4 and hit me hard, the car was displaced like 12feet! The left side airbags both opened up flawlessly, supporting the lower body and my head from the left, and i went out of the car intact! only feeling disoriented from the shock and airbag smoke but not even a headache or anything! I have been driving for 14 years now and this is my first car to car collision. The airbag is a great invention :D i mean if it hadn't been, the least i could expect now is to be in a hospital with my head injured and a broken arm, that is if i would survive such a head injury. Mercedes Benz is awesome! The car is 2002 model, that airbag has been sitting there for 10 years now waiting for the right time to work and it did what it's supposed to do!
Just wanted to share this story, as i am still feeling the thrill right now.
Cheers to a new life!

WOW, so glad you are alright and the airbags worked. You were lucky? blessed? whatever, glad you are here to tell us about it.

Glad you are okay Zem....airbags are great but seat belts save lives. I hope everyone buckles up. Is the car totaled? Oh and I hope you spoke to a lawyer.

thanks guys :) HL yes car is totaled, why would i want a lawyer? there were no charges pressed by any of the 2 sides.

If a "maniac driver" hit me and totaled my car I wld be contacting a civil attorney and making sure said maniac driver covered any and all of my losses. You mean no tickets were issued to this other person?

i misunderstood the meaning of "totaled", i thought you meant total loss insurance, which is what i have. where i am, they get inspectors on the scene to investigate the crash, then a report is issued, no detentions are made if it didn't cause injuries, i'm not sure what will happen, since it will take until monday, my first crash in 14 years driving, and i drive a lot. the guy is a maniac because he is careless, it was an accident and he would not be held full accountability, i made a mistake too, but he was speeding downhill on wet road and i was on a complete stop very far away from him actually i never saw him coming and he never stopped damn he crashed into my door at very high speed threw the car away. i mean i know i shouldn't have been stopped there, but i think it is much more dangerous to not be able to stop if you see something, anything, obstructing your road. i don't know yet, but from the early looks of it, i might hold even more than him a percentage of responsibility, i'm not expert, but i think his type of drivers is very dangerous, drive the big jeeps, feeling safe, speeding in crowded places, like they would operate a toy car. i learned my lesson, i would never block any road, if i see someone coming, a mile ahead, always assume that he will just keep going as if i were thin air! never obstruct a road... i was held back from crossing by passing cars, it was really, i had no choice after i did the mistake of crossing, i had to halt there and wait a few seconds, 6 maybe 7secs before the booom! i'll take pics of my car real soon, very interesting piece of security that airbag which blows downwards from the side, a single airbag that covers both frontside and back side passengers from bumping into the windows, i never knew it was there, i knew of the ones in the door and back side. this crash, i owe it to the airbag and Mercedes Benz for saving me.
